14b isn't even their record, think in 2011 they made 40bn on revaluation of FX reserves, so yes that's one way they make money,the other is lending to banks, money that comes from thin air...fines levied against banks etc

Are you suggesting that CBs [as last resort lenders] should lend to commercial banks 0% interest?
Should they also trade forex at 0% margins? Etc! etc!
