News just in (heard from Citizen Radio updates), is that Mumias Sugar is Closing the Factory effective tomorrow Sunday 19th October 2014. Any confirmation on this...?

Normal annual shutdown most likely starting Wednesday
The shutdown ought to have been at the beginning of the financial year!......It will be prolonged possibly to allow improvement on rendement and so,if your favourite packet is Mumias,you may not see it on shelves til late Dec to early Jan........MSC tried to buy cane from their neighbours (Nzoia) but this was declined.Ironically,Nzoia has roughly 250,000 MT surplus mature cane which is rotting in farms but they won't sell it to Mumias.I would expect the CS agriculture to intervene since Nzoia is a parastatal...Ama?

@Njung'e even if the CS intervenes which I doubt and the surpluse given to MSC , there still so many hurdles MSC should jump. when "they " decide to kill a factory for "their " business to prevail they KILL it whichever means. This company could die just like Miwani Chemilil Muhoroni......

@Boris,
I highly doubt someone is trying to kill Msc.Certainly,this one was screwed by the two previous MDs.It's possible to turn it around although this may take time since cane cannot grow overnight.Secondly,if Nzoia was to provide the surplus,that would be good enough to last 2 continuous months of crushing.Benefits here would be many fold , foremost being giving cane which is almost maturing time to put on more sucrose.

@Guka the MD's are "someones" already. remember they're kenyans and MUST have colluded with some POLITICIANS.Try find out stories on the sugar companies I have mentioned above I had mentioned in details on other MSC threads. when you put such a sugar factory in that position recovery is a tall order. NB : I have been around Miwani Chemilil Muhoroni....... for some years and I understand what sugar sector is.

The plant has periodic shut downs for maintenance. It's not like they are closing shop

Investors do not be swayed by such nasty posts mainly malicious and psychologically tormenting to make you sell at throw away prices. Stay put till things improve. Do not panic to giving in to speculators.

You two need to know I have been following mumias for a while. And been commenting much about the sugar issues in Nyanza sugar belt and MSc. How the Local politicians influence death of their industries. when the price was falling from 5/- downwards I was vocal on it being too difficult to come back on its knees. Spare some bundles go through the MSC first. Spare your flat words for another day.
