I found what he had to say about university education quite interesting.

And his take on what it should mean to be civilized.... priceless!

I concur with him on everything.

He has spoken to my heart.

I was having a related discussion with a group of friends some time back. I was asking them how comes some years back, people had fewer resources and larger families and were working less hours and were more relaxed. The conclusion was that we have brought this on ourselves. We are now even booking pre-schools before our kids are born [true story!], end up paying obscene figures in school fees that are not justified by what the kid learns, buy expensive electronics, latest phones, designer clothes [like there are clothes that were not designed], eat overpriced crappy food at 'trendy' joints, drink overpriced bottled chang'aa with fancy names, mineral water 'bottled at source' [a city council water tap], Persian rugs etc. A lot of stuff that we don't NEED.

Despite having the discussion, I still work like there is no tomorrow, try to grab all opportunities to make an extra coin and I'm almost becoming this fellow in Bangkok. It's almost like an addiction. I keep saying I will reduce my workload "next year" but it keeps increasing! Every time I achieve a goal, I set a bigger one! When does this cycle end??

I loved this part especially given my opinion on mortgages [at the current rates].

A bird builds a nest in a few hours, a rat digs a hole in one night and a bloody forko jembe called a homo sapien gets himself stuck with a 30 year mortgage!!!

We have be taught how to complicate everything... poison our land with chemicals....

We need to [re]learn how to simplify things...

And go back to working two hours a day... two months a year... And have festivals every Monday... because we have so much time in our hands...

We spend so much money buying cloths that do not change whom we are at the end of the day.
