I dont think Equitel will be competing with Mpesa...Equity would loose if it came to it.
The cost per transaction that equity will be incurring will obviously be higher than that of Safaricom.
e.g
Equity will be footing the bill for equitel, finserve,Airtel,and the software vendor they will be using to ride on.
Safaricom on the other hand will only be dealing with vodafone the owners of Mpesa.
So if Equity was to go head to head with safaricom ...it will ultimately loose.
Actually Equitel will have to give their agents better margins than what safaricom is currently offering for it to offer meaningful competition.
Equitel will only appeal to the current Equity customers, I dont think they will use price or tariff as a strategy because they will loose on that front to safaricom.
