Lipa pesa ya HELB. Hata kama unataka mchango useme, lakini deni lipa.

How do they get people's information including phone numbers?

I don't think it is right to hide under the 'Right to Privacy' so that one does not pay up his debt.
HELB helps people, more so from poor families who would otherwise not access Uni education. Once through, you should strive to pay up, even if its 1k a month to help other needy students.
Don't tell me somebody completed Uni in 2003 and still has not started paying up. Its not that they do not have the money, its ATT, otherwise the University didn't help him (Its not formal employment that earns cash)

Um Sayala, relax...ypu completely missed my point. Of course, people should pay their HELP loans, you are preaching to the choir.

My question is how these 3rd parties get your info and then call and offer to pay your loan.

@ butterflyke its very simple, as a government agency they simply need your id number, use it to get your KRA PIN which probably has your contact details as well. For defaulters they even go as far as requesting for any assets under your name/PIN e.g vehicles, land or bank accounts

I'm curious, is the Quest being mentioned here the same company as the multilevel marketing company that sells medallions and bio discs and sky juice?

I also have no idea how this lending institutions get their hands on some information.

In July I was importing a car and 2 weeks before arrival I had some firm whose name I don't remember bombarding me with texts on how I can get financing to clear import charges.
I had to call them and request they stop texting me. I also let them know that I had no idea know how they got that information.

In my mind, there can only be 2 sources of that information:
- the bank that I used to wire payment or
- the car import company themselves

I really doubt that my bank could have divulged such info to anyone.

I thought I'd heard of this company name before.....I remember the biodisc saga...I think they were called Questnet but they could be related....
