Good point. Let me objectively summarize my contribution:
Quote: a)Do we have an increase in the number of gay people? If so why is this?
I do not think we have an increase in the number of gay people just an increase in exposure and awareness. Also the advancement of human rights has made us more sensitive to the various minorities amongst our population. The availability of social media has also contributed.
Quote: b)Do we as a country have a soft spot for gay people.
We generally do not but I think this is variable amongst various population strata especially on the basis of religion, education and economic status. This would make a good research question.
Quote: c)Is being gay the in thing?
It don't think so. I think that subjectively it may seem so when one notices a "surge" in homosexuality from being more aware of their presence as more come out of the "closet".
Quote: d)Do we have documented number of gay people in Kenya?
Not officially. Most are estimated guess work. With the new outlook from the constitution they may eventually be included in the national demographic and health survey reports. The challenge will be identifying them since the law and general custom is against homosexuality and thus prohibits many from identifying with same sex sexual orientation. This would make another interesting research point.
