I recently just got a CDSC account from equity bank. At that time the Kenya Orchard stock was trading at 24.10 KES. So I orderd for about 100 shares of it. The next morning a message came into my phone confirming my purchases but. Fast forward to today when it is at 73.00 KES, I went to equity to sell my shares, just to find out it was never purchased. That pissed me off!!!!

NOTE: I purchsed at the same day Kenol Kobil stocks which traded at 8.9 and now around 9.20. Funny bit is the equity guy purchased the stock at the 200 shares I told him to. So how comes one was purchased and the other wasn't?

Second, Today I asked the guy who traded stocks for me at equuity, here is how it goes:

me: Is it possible to SHORT stocks here in Kenya through equity.?
Guy: WHat is shorting?
me: Ordernig stock when it is at a high price and hoping it falls then buying it at the low price. So I get a profit from the difference.
Guy: Ey? Hakuna kitu kama hiyo hapa.

So I went to Co-Op bank just across the road. I asked them if it was possible to short stocks if I was to use them as my broker. This time it was a lady.

Lady: Just first open an account with us and then trade, you will be able to short.
me: Do you know what shorting is?
Lady: Uuhh, uh,, yeah open the account and you will be able to short with us.
me:(I knew she didn't know what the shit was SHORTING a stock so I left).

Now, to all the GURU's in here, Which is the best way to trade stocks here in Kenya at reasonable additional costs, and through a broker company that actually knows what the hell things like SHORTING, PUTTING, CALLING stocks is. Please. You will be helping a great number of kenyans.

If the message came from CDSC, iko maneno hapo. if from equity or that guy you are talking about, they probably never did buy the shares. Did they return the cash you used to order the purchase!?

Its best you have a broker with an online account so you do he trades yourself and have control. Note that all brokers in Kenya always have issues. I use SBG securities and I don't have a lot of complains considering they have a very good customer care service.

FYI, there is no shorting in Kenya and if you can avoid those coop chaps, most don't know what they are doing except opening CDS accounts
If you don't want to go to plan B have a good plan A.

You should check your CDSC statement to see if the transaction went through. If it shows the shares were bought then CMA will compel them to return the shares to you - and maybe someone will get fired. This happened once to me as well with Equity and I got my shares back after complaining to the CMA.

How o check CDSC statement while online? I don't want to go all the way back to equity. Also is it possible to trade online directly with reseanable costs?

Online trading is done through a stocks broker or investment bank. Dyer and Blair and CFC are some of the best for online trading. You will be able to view your shares through the online accounts provided by the broker/IB. Why do you need CDSC to see your shares? CDSC gives statements during a month that there has been an activity(trade say) on your account. If you register you can get them online.

I know of no significant costs of trading online.

Co-op Bank or Kingdom Securities are also good if you know what you want! Don't let them tell you what to buy/sell.
The opposite of courage is not cowardice, it's conformity.
