Your bank statement has strange debits

Hi Wazuans
Banks are at it again. Today I was going through my bank statement and found the following debit lines: a) Excise duty of kshs. 15 for a 50 bob transaction fee charge instead of kshs. 5/=.; also kshs. 8 excise for a 25 bob transaction fee, etc etc b) mobile transaction subscription entry, several of them at ksh. 35/= c) other transactions fees with excise duty but no details. Just reference numbers.
When I contacted the customer service and the branch, they could not explain, saying they have done emails to the relevant department.
This was one of those regular surprise audits I do since the advent of unexplained thefts on customers accounts in Kenya.
Let me wait and hear what response I will get.

NAME THE THIEF WE SAME THEM . if they take ksh 10 per client per transaction ,do the maths in a months time.

Every morning I keep getting balance messages , and a deduction of Kshs 30 from my balance each time I get one, I never subscribed to the same and yet they insist I did, a very strange bank indeed. The first time I posted this, I was asked to name the bank; which I hesitated coz may be it was peculiar to my account. You can imagine a bank with over one million accounts deducting 30 bob every day at 6am plus the gava getting 3 bob later in the month from the "theft" in excise duty.
The thing is smartly done from the back end. They insist you are the one to disable it by subscribing to their mobile banking app. How many Kenyans will do that?

It's probably a "rogue" premuium subscription on your safaricom line. Checking shortly to remove.. Life is joy, death is peace, but the transition is very difficult.

It is not a Safaricom subscription, it is an alert enabled , problem is , the alert is not enabled by the customer ,got mine disabled after my tenth followup call to customer care. Lots of people facing the same issue. "You can't have everything. Where would you put it?" - Stephen Wright

I did call this morning and they deactivated for me instantly. They have no answer as to why everyone was subscibed in the first place, without their knowledge.. If you need the cash back, you have to visit your branch and launch a complaint, which is something i'm sure people will not have time for... Ideally, the bank is only able to send you these messages by subscribing you to some service with your mobile phone provider. of course, if the deduction is on you bank account, then unsubscribing you won't stop them collecting the fee even if the messages don't reach you but would work if the deduction is from your airtime.

I think it's the other way round.. Once they unsubscribe you, they won't deduct the fees everyday..of course, plus you stop receiving the texts. It's really a Bank issue as I see it, and probably has nothing to do with Safaricom.. Life is joy, death is peace, but the transition is very difficult.

The opposite of courage is not cowardice, it's conformity.
