So, one fine saturday morning about a fortnight ago, they finally got my pal. He'd just withdrawn some 150k from a bank hapo TRM when, as he was walking away, somebody stopped him and asked him eti 'are you so and so who does such and such a business?' admittedly, they got the name wrong but the nature of his business right. The fellow who stopped him was soon joined by a group of about four other men (who, to his eyes, seemed like plain clothes policemen) who proceeded to concoct a story of how one of his clients had raised a complaint against him to the police and would he be kind enough as to accompany them to the police station to record his side of the story?

He was promptly shoved inside a probox in which were four other armed guys, all with 'pingu za polisi'. Shock on him, once inside the tinted vehicle, he was thrown to the floor and the vehicle promptly drove off to an unknown destination while the thugs promptly proceeded to empty his pockets.

All this time as they're driving around, the thugs in the vehicle were in constant phone communication with the group out there. The group in the vehicle saying they only found 110k (not 150k) on their captive and the group out there insisting it was 150k and instructing their colleagues to 'finya yeye zaidi atoe hiyo 40'.

It then dawned on my pal that the in-car thugs wanted to swindle their colleagues out there of this 40k and keep it to themselves. At one point in the back and forth phone conversations, he was forced at gun point to tell the 'out-of-car' thugs, on phone, that he only had 110k as he had given out 40k before leaving the bank. Only then did the out-of-car guys instruct the in-car guys to take the 110k and dump the guy.

He was dumped in the middle of nowhere, thoroughly shaken and with a few soft tissue injuries where they'd hit him with the gun butts as they stepped on him.

He eventually made his way to kasarani police station to report. Coincidentally, the cops seemed to know one of the attackers, described as a dark guy with a gap in his teeth that he often tries to hide with his hand and who speaks with a lisp.

hehehe...sio mimi @Swenani.

Incidentally, as the guy is recovering from the harrowing ordeal, he now mentions one tiny detail that, in retrospect, seems odd: shortly after he withdrew the cash but before he walked out, the cashier who had just served him beckoned a guy who was not on the queue, chatted to him briefly and then the guy seemed to make a phone call just as my pal was walking out. I guess this may perhaps be the call that identified him out to his attackers.

As per the story the only people who would know the exact amount he had just withdrawn are the bank teller and the person expecting the cash.

The bank teller especially. The cash was intended to pay a variety of guys all over the place. Dude is a hustler in the real sense with 'projects' in various places. Curiously too, the police had an accurate description of at least one of the thugs.

As at the time he narrated this, he looked too shaken and I honestly didn't wanna ask too much. I'll however get the details polepole and report back.

That teller is a thief and the bank should be named and shamed.

Pole sana.

If there is any lesson to be learnt here is, move to a cashless mode of payment.

If that gapped lisper is ever arrested, testifying against him could prove more fatal.
