“Welcome to the only university of Nairobi, the best university in Africa, south of Sahara desert, north of river Limpopo. My dear comrades, this is the only university with the tallest, darkest and handsome professors, shortest professors.

As the sonu chairman, I will protect you from the unruly watchmen, policemen, lecturers and professors who might have ill intention of causing real or imaginary harm to you..

Tomorrow, we have a date with the government, we shall peacefully demonstrate till helb credit our accounts. Let no one be a bystander, let no one be a sympathizer of HELB. In the end, both the oppressed and the oppressor will be judged equally.

The oppressor will be judged for oppressing the oppressed while the oppressed will be judged harshly for allowing the oppression

Thank You”

Quote:
The students led by recently elected students’ leader, Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino stormed exam rooms and destroyed exam materials.

Students from the School of Engineering who were almost completing their Mathematics paper were left in shock after a group of rowdy students stormed the exam room and tore their question papers and answer booklets.

“I have nothing to tell the press,” said the annoyed Dr Jeremiah Musuva who was supervising a Mathematics paper for third year students in the School of Engineering.

Some students claimed that they lost their belongings including exam cards during the mayhem.

“I have lost my exam card and I don’t know the time it will take to process another one,” Kennedy Nzioka, a third year engineering students told Nation.co.ke.

SHAME!!!

This is the college you studied, as an alumni you should do something to eliminate such shame instead of just shouting SHAME!!!

Shame on you Shame on you Shame on you

These are some of his quotes during Fridays HELB "peaceful" demonstration.

"An average comrade should eat chicken."

"A Comrade would want to die but they cannot afford a rope to hang themselves. "

"...disloyalty to comrades is loyalty to satan"

"Comrades power!!!!Comrades riaaaaaaaaa!!!!Comrades tialalalala!!!!........ I want to be as brief as a cock on a hen!Comrades are sick and tired of not having money to buy condoms!Comrades are sick and tired of ejaculating outside!"

Comrade life

These statements seem to work for him.

we have a cultural problem at our public universities... one is with the students and another with the teaching and support staff.
the students still feel entitled to stuff! it's like society owes them something for them to have made it that far! when I was a student there was a student leader who I really liked at the begining but realized ni mkebe when he said 'people should not be in a hurry to leave campus'.... ? career student mentality! but most of these are people from shags mbaya where the fellow villagers worship these 'caMBUS' students.
the other problem is with administration, teaching staff and no teaching staff... a feeling of entitlement as well... the fellows love walking around with a sense of "don't you know who I am?". fellows that make students who are not in the first group (guys who look at university life as a "means to an end") really hate university life. in your campus life - did you ever talk/ask a typical librarian, cateress or some funny support staff for assistance? ulipatiwa maneno? they are not there to help (perhaps they are pushing back because they have been subjected to years of flak from the career students.). Hata olivia mugenda akijenga hiyo shule yake aje as long as the people are still thinking as above... hakuna mahali tunaenda. we need a culture change.

a lot of assumptions. university for me (and a host of my then college mates) was both an end to itself and a means to an end. maybe joining immediately from high school at mostly government expense versus joining later in life (and most likely self sponsored too) may have an effect on that. i would not have wanted to swap my four years for three years just to be done with it. at the same time by the time i was graduating i never wanted to spend a day more. the teaching staff was as in any society a mix of the good and the bad but with more of the former than the latter.as for the librarians, the student welfare authority (don't know what they are now) and the other staff generally, they couldn't have been more helpful. think it depends on how one related to them and also the college you went to.

on sense of entitlement? you are spot on there.

my narrative does not describe everyone. as in life there always exceptions but until we are able to remove these cultural elements (but I must admit it has been around 10 years since I cared to step into a kenyan PUBLIC university since I got sick of these mindsets so my information may be a bit 'off' on some aspects)
