I took a policy with Kenyan insurance company(name withheld)about 3 years ago. When I requested for a statement they did not send despite several reminders until I threaten to go and camp there till I get it.They did the statement on that same day .

Now this is where the problem is , they had not posted my policies from May 2009 despite the standing orders religiously going through from my bank account. The four entries were belatedly made in January 2010 for 4 months standing orders.

When I protested they said that their accounts have not been updated since may 2009!!!!! how can this happen? what is IRA doing?

I requested for the fund value and they said they are working on the system?

I find this very ridiculous and I have lost faith in all insurance agents .I will never touch another insurance policy with a 100 feet pole.
Do you guys think its worth continuing with this policy or I should just push to know the fund value ,withdraw it , burn my fingers after an expensive lesson well learnt?

This insurance thing I must say is a legitimate fraud. Definitely worse than stockbrokers and banks. As I write I'm awaiting settlement for theft that occurred over six months ago.

Had some experience with another insurance firm who booked me for life insurance and forgot to inform me. Then when I went to confirm status, they said "we've covered you for 4 months already, your premium is about to ran out, glad you're still alive". And I said "what would've happened if I died and no one knew about the policy"

I tell you one quick visit to IRA and the guys adjusted policy commencement date. So the problem is that we often threaten but no one goes to IRA in Upper Hill. They have a consumer complaints section and Insurers stop their games when they hear from them.

I am not sure I understand the problem. Is your beef that your accounts were not updated? If so, that is not your problem and no need to sweat over it. You have a contract with the Insurance company, you have agreed you would pay by standing order, you have been doing it religiously and the insurer has not said that they never received your remittances. So, where is the problem?

But @Gordon Gekko you simplify.

Another friend decides to cancel policy, when it comes to refund, the issue became please proove that you've been paying... then we need to investigate where the money went... then statement says you confirm within 30days or it's assumed correct ... then the wait begins 6m 9m 18m !!!

God forbid if it was a life insurance and the next of kin is chasing payments. In short external intervention is necesasry.

My analysis of the fundamental issue with insurance is Large companies vs One small insured party. All the legal stuff and small print doesn't help. It's just setup in such a way that they can bail out.

Solution, insure in a group e.g. company, large family etc. that makes it worth their while [insurer] to keep their word. 2nd solution - regulation - Wonder what guys were doing before IRA?

True, I still have major trust issues with these guys. I should actually follow up on my policies right now, make sure it's all up to date. These guys are not to be trusted. Yet they spend lots of money on ads saying "trust us".

GG the problem is simple , I cant get the value to my policy to date, The insurance company cant explain where my standing orders have been going since May 2009.
It took like 3 months to just to get the damn statement.isnt something fishy somewhere?

I needed to see if the fund was worth an exit?but the company cant give me the infor.Muganda thanks ,I think the next destination will be IRA.
