Hi People,

Ignoring the difference in engine size, how would you compare these two vehicles as far as value for money goes? I have heard good things about the Axela, but what I dislike about it is the crumped space on the rear seats.

I have never tried the Accord, but I found legroom wanting on the Civic (not sure if their interiors are of the same dimensions...).

Anyone ever dealt with both (that would give a fairer verdict)?

You, strictly, cannot compare the two. The Accord competes with the Mazda 6 (Atenza in Japan) while tha Civic competes with the Mazda 3 (Axela in Japan).

The Atenza has similar dimensions to the Accord including engine size. Choice will be due to aesthetics. Both are good cars. you can google reviews online.
Both also look very good. I have seen the new versions in Nairobi but they aren't many especially the Atenza. Seen just one.

How is the Accord in terms off consumption? Read somewhere that it's V6 delivers 30 mpg which is almost too good to be true.

The reason that I asked for these is the following:

1. Atenza (or the 6) had some recalls, while Axela (the 3) didn't really, so Axela scores for reliability. The Atenza is also not known for great fuel economy. We had a company-owned Atenza at my place of work which was sold a month ago due to high maintenance costs. So the Atenza is out
2. The Civic's steering wheel is a little too low (even after tilt-adjusting). It rests between my knees, so I cannot drive it. I would have loved it, but I cannot drive it, so it's out Sad
3. I love the Axela and I am considering buying it, but I would love to first compare an alternative in terms of fuel economy and comfort, since the back seat has little legroom. I might buy the Axela, but I need to compare it first with the Accord.
4. The Accord seems to enjoy some rave reviews, but I am yet to try it first to see if I can drive it comfortably. I also notice that it's 2.0L trim CRSP is lower than for the 1.5L Axela trim. That adds to its attractiveness. Honda's efficient i-vtec technology is another factor attracting me to it.

I hope it is clearer now why I sought for a comparison of these two mismatched cars. I'd love to know how they compare in terms of economy, performance and comfort and not in terms of which car is a better match for which other one, etc.

Come on guys! Honda is better than 90% of the car out there, Honda is the car. Accord a very decent car across the board. Honda made cars are way better than Mazda made cars. In terms of quality, Honda can be compared to Toyota or Nissan not Mazda.

Correction buddy, the vehicles you compare Honda with are inferior.Honda has a reputation on reliability.

Honda is compared with Toyota and Nissan

BMW is compared with Mercedece, Acura(Honda made), Lexus(Toyota made), Infinti(Nissan made) and Audi.

Mazda can be compared maybe with Hyundai and maybe Chevy made cars.

Some guy selling a 2006 Accord tells me that he does 13-15 km/l. This sounds too good to be true for a 2000cc engine. Is is possible?

Secondly, are this car's spares readily available? Anyone with an Accord?

yes, 13-15 sound about right. I Drive a 3500cc Acura, it's a luxury model made my Honda but I still get a good fuel/mile considering the size of the engine. One thing about Accord that makes it really good is the parts are cheap and the car is easy to repair, parts might need to be imported but with 2006 Honda accord, thats a newer car you won't have problems atleast for the next 4 yrs. Honda is just a good car.

Honda Accord is a good car. It competes seriously with the Camry for best selling car in US actually they keep switching the number one spot back and forth. I drove the 2001 model when in the US and had fun. that thing doesn't die. There is an accord I see in Nai whose design is Acura. If you can afford it get it

accord does between 8 and 9 km/l on town drive on the motor way it does 17km/l for the 2000cc model.
if you were to go for the Honda civic UK hatch you would get 14 - 16 km/l on town and 21km/l on motor way for the 1800cc model which has 140 horses and its quite a looker.
the above are specs for autos on the manuals you might get better mileage

Hi rollout, thanks for the heads up. I just need to get a minor detail clear; (1) when you say that I won't have problems for the next 4 years, what sort of problems are these? (2) For which version would the parts need to be imported?

Honda Accord drive forever if you do the necessary maintance like oil change and tune ups, I say the next 4 years because a 2006 car is already 8 yrs old. Honda accord goes for over 12 yrs before you encounter problems you'd ecounter in other cars when they're like 8 yrs old.

I am not saying the parts are not in Kenya but if you have to import then it will be Honda Accord parts. Acura which is the luxury verson of Honda is another great car but don't buy it unless you have the money, the car is great but like BMWs everything is computerized, you can't just drive in and have someone change the brakes, they have to plug into a computer to do that, it's stupid but you can't even change the headlight bulb, the bulb come from Honda/Acura certified store with outragous price tag so do not buy the Acura verson.
Honda Accord on the other hand is a regular car your regular mechanic can repair.
