I have 200K,to start from now.Is it advisable to buy Centum,Unga,Safaricom,Equity and NIC. Each at 50K worth shares.I hear diversifying to shares is like location to real estate.

are you investing short term or long term? the shares you are targeting are at all time high

Long term

i would advice you to wait the dust to settle on centum, safcom and equity. for for unga i have no comment. i strongly believe you will be able to buy at cheaper price towards the end of the year because the three are good long term especially centum and equity.
but for me i would go for kenol kobil with 100k long term and kplc short term with 100k to sell after full year results next month

All your picks are based on what has been published in the Business daily today.Be very wary when the newspaper report such news as its a perfect way to lock in the wanjikus(new comers or hellos as known in wazua lingo).

Though not to discourage you, all the shares above are at new time highs, give the market a cooling period then buy, but only for Long term.If you buy any of the above for short term, utalia.

short term mostly is event driven, ie you expect the company to report good results eg kplc, complete an acquisition eg jubilee, centum, or any other good announcement which can spark a rally.
long term to me can be 2years and above but it depends because some investors can view 2yrs as short term. in this, company foundamentals are key, well managed companies with good future outlook eg cfc as discussed by wazuans in another thread

In this case, its tricky.Safaricom has just been awarded police contract, looks well managed,Centum is on the process of acquiring Coal business and Reo vipingo is still awaiting(I doubt whether it will get it),Equity seems to headed for MVNO thing, and NIC is talking of massive expansion.Does these indicators point to anything for short term or long term investors
