WHAT THEY Still DON'T TEACH YOU AT HARVARD BUSINESS SCHOOL by Mark H.McCormack.
He advises on the need to be streetwise&gives the following 'Ten Commandments' of Street Smarts:
.Never underestimate the importance of money-It is alright to be concerned about money. It is,after all, the way most businesspeople keep score.
.Never overestimate the value of money-Cash isn't the only currency in business. There's much to be said about a job well done, the respect of others
.You can never have too many friends in business-Given the choice, people always prefer to do business with a friend, even if they can make a better deal elsewhere
.Don't be afraid to say, ''I don't know''-There's no shame in not knowing everything.
.Speak less-While busy talking, you are probably not reading the constantly shifting rhythms of your audience&your situation.
.Keep your promises,big&small-Its depressing when someone doesn't keep their word.It breaks trust;the starting point of any relationship
.Every transaction has a life of its own-Be adaptable.Go into a negotiation with as few preconceptions as possible.
.Commit yourself to quality from day one-Concentrate on each task, whether trivial or crucial as if it's the only thing that matters(it usually is).Its better to do nothing at all than to do it badly
.Be nice to people-Not because you'll need them on your way down(as the cliche goes) but because its the most pleasant route to the top
.Don't hog the credit-Share it with your colleagues. If you have to tell the world how smart you are,you probably aren't.
