You don't need religion to tell you about hygiene and cleanliness.

Islam has come up with a set of rules, right intentions and tools to be used. We use water after tissue paper. Then use water and soap to wash the hands.

This is the norm.

But now you will ask what about in a remote place, like the desert? I will tell you things are flexible. There will be no difference between you and me in this case. What will you use? You can use a rock, you can use sand, or use tree leaves.
You can use paper only, like the letter your grand mother wrote to you.

@impunity regarding your question what happens when you go to a public toilet, or where you don't know about whether water is clean or not.

This applies to people living in non-Islamic countries (no offense intended), and where there no Islamic toilets. One is advised to carry a water bottle. The one you will not use for drinking, or anyone else drinking from it! You can carry a small container of water with you, which can fit in your purse. I use such kinds when i go out for public toilets.

What is your next question? Is it what about washing from a bucket? I can anawer tat if you want smile

Do you use something like a sponge?
and is 500 ml of bottled water enough to wipe an adult *ass sufficiently?
d'oh!

@impunity, we use water. And yes, bottled water 500ml is enough.

You have learnt something today. Cheers.

What position do you take while washing your *ss?How do you protect your airport from dirty water if you were a lady?

And suppose you have a running stomach will 500ml bottle be enough?
d'oh! d'oh! d'oh!

Phew!!!! Let me close this toilet discussion with some bonus for you...

Hear from the experts
1). Experts say using water is very hygienic and environmental friendly way.
2). Even doctors recommend washing your private parts after using the bathroom.
They say people who do not wash, have usually diseases down there or they stink when they sweat.
3). Experts say you will save a lot of trees by not using a toilet paper
4). It is hygiene especially for females. Using water is a great way to leave a women feeling refreshed and clean. It is more beneficial during menstruation or after intercourse. Water alleviates the problems such as rashes by washing away harmful bacteria that causes infection.

Logically
- Toilet paper alone is not the best option. It does not clean thoroughly. It can even contribute to anal fissures.
- Other methods of cleansing after a answering call of nature are better: a bidet, sponges, towels, save comfort Wipe, and wet naps
- You can combine more than one of them for example dry paper followed by a wet nap.

NOTE: Hiduism is the oldest religion. They also use water to clean themselves.

As regards eating fruits from a vendor across the road?
If you have ever noticed, no Muslim eats food on the road. It is an Islamic etiquette not to eat on the roads. The Muslims are taught this from childhood. Leave alone making poor fellow someone who has not eaten food for days feel bad, it is not healthy. So we buy fruits, go home, wash them before eating.
