The debate has taken a commendable turn with introspection taking root and acceptance that we have performed way below par. Pointless blaming colonialists most of us never saw. And anyway,their sin was simply gathering resources for their motherland and people,their own national self interest and wealth. Our forefathers never went out to colonise and gather for their people and their country - were they unable or unwilling? I commend those colonialists for they made their lands great using the resources of 'outsiders'. Here we make ourselves (the person ourselves rather than the nation ourselves) wealthy at the expense of our own people and Nation!!

On population - I have alarmingly noticed that even elites are having more children than in the recent past. I have no clue why this new phenomenon - the era of two is gone and now three seems the minimum. Cannot hazard a guess as to why. A truance is that no Nation on earth ever developed on the back of an exponentially growing populace; and definitely not one stratified with a huge dependent population at the base - that begs the question - does the government spend on essential services needed by this dependent bloated population or does it spend on development ? There is an opportunity cost.

Finally resources in Africa (except in exceptional cases) are a curse; productive land,oil,minerals,tropical rain forests. They are a source of vicious conflict - mismanaged by those in government for personal gain - generating National poverty. In other parts of the world they are an asset reponsibly managed by the government for the entire populace - generatinbg National wealth.

From one Reverend Malthus;

'A man who is born into a world already possessed,if he cannot get subsistence from his parents on whom he has a just demand,and if the society does not want his labour,has no claim of right to the smallest portion of food,and,in fact,has no business to be where he is. At nature's mighty feast there is no vacant cover for him. She tells him to be gone,and will quickly execute her own orders,if he does not work upon the compassion of some of her guests. If these guests get up and make room for him,other intruders immediately appear demanding the same favor. The report of a provision for all that come,fills the hall with numerous claimants. The order and harmony of the feast is disturbed,the plenty that before reigned is changed into scarcity; and the happiness of the guests is destroyed by the spectacle of misery and dependence in every part of the hall,and by the clamorous importunity of those,who are justly enraged at not finding the provision which they had been taught to expect. The guests learn too late their error,in counter-acting those strict orders to all intruders,issued by the great mistress of the feast,who,wishing that all guests should have plenty,and knowing she could not provide for unlimited numbers,humanely refused to admit fresh comers when her table was already full.'

I must have misunderstood... As in media in Europe not reporting famines... I do NOT believe Western Europe has seen famine/hunger like we see every 2-3 years in Africa... since the 2nd World War...

Damn straight... it may sound cruel but we use 'Western' meds to prolong lives that would have been extinguished 100 years ago...
