So Airtel's fortunes improve, Safaricom house has another quiver, tourists get to live the wildlife experience right from Booking+Car+Hotel+Keeping in touch.

Virgin is an airline and a MVNO, not many other examples...

At this rate we will have too many MVNOs competing against each other.

This is now the best kind of competition: competing based on value addition rather than price wars. Airtel giving you a Test-a-money Brick wall

Does one just wake up and declare themselves MVNO or do they apply for a license from CCK?

CAK director-general Francis Wangusi, however, said all the three applicants had sought to use Airtel’s Network and that Telkom had nothing to worry about.

Airtel wil be having 4 MVNO's on its network (Finserve Africa Limited, a subsidiary of Equity Bank, Mobile Pay Limited, owned by Tangaza Money, KQ and Zioncell Kenya). Will it still be able to offer quality services, does CAK factor this in issuing its license?
ION SCB have stopped its M-Banking services through Airtel because of "compliance issues"!

I think it is a very creative move by airtel.
If they were to concentrate on only selling services to end user customers aka Wanjiku, they would be beaten hands down by MPesa bank as done repeatedly. Way around? Recruit corporates who in turn create clientele in their diversified market segments hence turning them into consumers of their idle infrastructure capacity. Soon everything will be powered by airtel and paid/banked by mpesa Laughing out loudly

One of the reasons Equity gave for having their own MVNO was to manage clients' security. Equity 'controls' the SIM not Airtel.

W'd have thought they would be focusing resources on their core business, considering recent performance.
It’s what you learn after you think you know it all that counts.

KQ shall only be providing roaming services globally to its guests. Therefore, shall be seeking to diversify the revenue streams while enhancing her guest experience. This is better than being in direct competition with the telecommunication service providers, you know Safcom will win anytime. The details are still scanty but they said the partnership allows Airtel to host KQ Mobile; as a Mobile Virtual Network Operator, (MVNO) on its Network. Also put, they will sell AIR TIME.

And in this harsh economic times who would not want to diversify?

My thought exactly. They just acquired Dreamliners, their focus should be expansion in the right markets to take advantage of the Dreamliner's fuel economy.

BBI will solve it

I see. So Airtel let a camel's head into the tent. Wonder what will happen to Airtel money?
