* Islam says cover your body and don't be naked, THEY say Islam is primitive

* Islam says no shaking of hands between opposite sex, THEY say Islam is hard (this solves 50% of the infection, remember EBOLA is transmitted through Saliva, sweat, tears, blood or semen).

* Islam says wash your body at least 5 times a day to get rid of impurities, before each of the 5 prayers in a day, THEY say purification is only of the mind.

Now EBOLA came knocking and you see all of THEM covering their bodies, staying away from restricted handshakes ans washing their bodies like never before.

(I hear now they are being told to wash themselves with hot water and salt! This is an hoax)

The One Question About Ebola That Nobody Can Seem To Answer

How in the world is it possible that more than 170 health workers have been infected by the Ebola virus?

Barriers to rapid containment of the Ebola outbreak

Question. More.

Especially "official" statements and communiques.

That's what good scientists do. Question and then seek answers.

this has been answered OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER..... again! Remember these are the people who are taking care of these individuals when they are at their most infectious! a small lapse and pap! coz "an infinitesimally small amount can cause illness. Laboratory experiments on nonhuman primates suggest that even a single virus may be enough to trigger a fatal infection."... it just requires one virus! one virus not cleaned on the clothing... removing gloves with your hands can prove fatal... there are so many combinations and permutations of things that can go wrong in a hospital where ebola patients live... INCLUDING THE WALLS an infectious patient can touch the wall and PAP... wewe ushike... upatikane.

Does that include money?

quite likely.... but this is specifically for INFECTIOUS PEOPLE. the virus has a limited number of hours outside the body and so if an INFECTIOUS person handles money and you handle that money soon after that utapatikana - in the same way the Ugandan fellow in the top story was patwad. however if he put his money on a cupboard for a certain amount of time (X hrs) and you handle it after - you may be safe. the last I heard X was 5 hours. It is generally a good practice to use hand sanitizers before accepting money... I had my own at hand sanitizer for that purpose... plus opening doors and sometimes handling spoons in restaurants e.t.c.

most establishments now have these bucketsful of chrorinated water in their entrances

it may be debatable on their effectiveness but to me it's more effective as a reminder to persons in the affected countries that this sh*t is real... get with the program.

So using hand sanitizers (with moisturizer and vitamin E) each and every single time one handles items is ok.

But wondering about flights is an overkill and an unreasonable overreaction.

you need to underline that! sio hivi hivi... it has moisturizer and vitamin E!
Flights are an overkill coz anyone who wants to come home will come home even if it's via Rwanda or Ethiopia or Accra or Gambia or even Brussels....

Yes.

Additional check points is an overkill.

Increasing the number of "filters" on the homeward bound route is an overkill.

I gotta get me self some moisturizer!

my take! I actually think Ghana is more high risk than even Kenya - this is my justification (no data...no science just perceptions). I just ask myself the following questions
1. how many liberian-kenyans, sierra leonean - kenyans or guinea-kenyans do you know/are even there? how many people from those countries do you know that have interests in kenya? let's say they are X such people from a population of 20 million people.
2. how many of those people do you think have contacted Ebola over the last 8-10 days (max 21 days)? let's call this subset of X - Y!
3. how many of these people are able to get onboard a plane before showing symptoms? let's say they are Z people out of this population of Y.

What figure do you think Z represents?

Let's do another similar analysis
1. how many liberian-americans, sierra leonean - americans or guinea-americans are there? how many people from those countries do you know that have interests in the US? let's say they are A such people from a population of 20 million people.
2. how many of those people do you think have contacted Ebola over the last 8-10 days (max 21 days)? let's call this subset of A - B!
3. how many of these people are able to get onboard a plane before showing symptoms? let's say they are C people out of this population of B.

What figure do you think B represents? Where do these B people transit through? Kenya? Do the same with British Interests and European Interests. Since most airlines are not flying there - most of these people head to Accra and get onboard western bound flights.

The only people originating from these 3 countries are
1. Kenyan NGO workers (if they are not all back home already)
2. Chinese/Asian workers from businesses and huko interior - transiting through JKIA going East!

that's my 2 cent analysis.

KQ putting money before all else, shortsighted IMHO, I'm in Italy and seems all guys here know Enola iko Africa kote without distinguishingwhich part od Africa. The first confirmed Ebola case in Kenya will drive down the already low tourism industry ti the grave and with it Kq profitability.

I found that quite strange. All major airlines have suspended their flights and kq is still flying those sides. This shit is dangerous...Does Naikuni know this.

This disease is so brutal, the little monetary gain not worth it.

As I said before... merely suspending flights to 'affected' countries will not help. Everyone has to suspend flights for it to be effective due to the small thing called 'connecting flights'. the current steps are also inadequate - while Ebola is only in the 4 countries listed - who says passengers cannot travel to Nairobi via dubai and Accra and not carry the virus? when someone wants to come home they will come home regardless of the flight path. so... CHECK EVERYONE!

There is a meeting today in regards to this...but West Africa is a cash cow for the financially ailing KQ doubt they will stop...

Pressure...d'oh!

You, my brother, presumably as a African, are always afraid. Now that we have progressed (finally!) to "high risk", you need consider the following:
1. Stock up on hand sanitizers! (With moisturizer and vitamin E)
2. Then install jik water on your premises.
3. Then get with the program.

True that.

Cash + risk an outbreak or no cash + minimize chances of an outbreak.

The West African route is an important source of revenue for the airline.

We should expect the statement today.

Why is Ethiopia not categorized with Kenya. Ethiopian Airways flys more times to west Africa than Kenya Airways. Our PR as country need to be checked.

I have a small question, probably @masukuma can enlighten me. Is it possible to detect infection, after x period of time, where x > time to fly from nearest affected West African country? If yes, then is it possible Ethiopia is just doing what needs to be done, screen passengers as they disembark?

I want to agree with someone who said, even if you stop flight to West Africa, someone will still fins another route home, if he must come home.

@Alph, the incubation period is averaged as being 8-10 days. 21 days are at the extreme and so it is possible for a person to fly to 3-4 airports or even drive across the boarder after being infected and find their way to even the US or Japan or even far flung places like Fiji depending on the 'window' of their travel. but perhaps we are looking at this thing wrong - we need to ask about 'interests' since people travel because of interests... to me Europe and the US are actually at higher risk since the higher risk people are actually more interested in them than us. people flying directly from these 3 countries to Kenya are actually Kenyans who are doing NGO work or IT work over there - they will find their way home if they need to come home. in my opinion these are not very high risk targets since unless they 'eat something' or are in healthcare - they may not come in contact with the virus. The natives of these 3 countries have literally no interest in kenya in much the same way you have no interest in Gabon or Central african republic.... their interest is the in the western world!
