By 2015, it is projected that 75% of Americans will be overweight and 41% obese. Current numbers are 64% and 26% respectively.

Startling statistics! Watu washibe, eh?

The numbers in Africa must be the reverse. Maybe 75% underweight and 41% suffering severe malnutrition???

Maybe this weight imbalance is what keeps the earth rotating smile

Lol!!!! lakini hapa Nairobi kuna watu Obese wengi - chips, choma, Tusker and the fact that we hadly move about ( exercise ) are the main cause.

@mzazii correct kabisa, plus widespread use of contraceptives na iko watu wana walk not unlike the duck-billed platypus coz of excesive weight...hehee

If I had a butchery, I would be sufficiently humanitarian to ensure no obese person would get fatty meat - only lean. And if i had a chips joint, only lean folks to enter plse!!

Theres a pretty direct propotionality esp in Nairobi, of food and peanut increaments(aka salaries)..
take it from me, Kenyan urbanites are similar, if not worse to their American alternatives....
How else does one explain ever expanding 'love handles aka tyres' esp. after landing stable jobs..... and spouses?

It is becoming a major issue in urban areas, especially Nairobi.

I took my son to Village Market and Wild Waters for swimming recently and was shocked to see seriously overweight kids all over. After hitting the slides, they would be treated to chips, fried chicken, burgers, pizzas etc, latter downed with fizzy drinks, chemical juices and ice cream. The evidence is indisputable, checking out the queues at Nandos on Terrific Tuesdays, Steers, and the Kenchic joints in town that are famous for kuku sama.

To make maaters worse, the kids spend home time watching TV, playing video games and eating more junk, spending little time on physically exerting activities like sports, helping out at home etc.

No wonder life style diseases like diabetes in kids are on the rise.

Who stands to benefit from all these...if only pharma co, steerz, galitos were listed...incidentally which stocks are likely to be influenced.
@reithi VM is ulaya ndogo... one needs to visit 'afrika' to see why kenya rotates!
