Someone did a lengthy explanation of it a few weeks back, but think of it like an elastic rubber band, you can pull it or shrink it as necessary depending on how many things you need to wrap. Power from the engine to the transmission is handled similarly. It is better than the stepped gear ratios in an kawaida automatic car.
