The leadership of this country is so out of touch with the suffering of Kenyans. In the meantime it will have to take Kenyans with a conscience to do the little they can do in their surroundings to alleviate the worst of this suffering.

@ all it is disheartening to see that our fellow beings are going through this life of hand to mouth while some of us have it in abundance... i feel we as people are morally decaying at a speed that possibly we would not be able to brake to even if we wanted... surely we must take turnabout and do something.... we must and it should start at a personal level... as much as we got personal ambitions that needless to say calls for usage of money,we must try to understand that we are only lucky to have something in excess of our daily basic needs... it starts with me then you, lets change the world... you've heard me..

At the risk of sounding insensitive, let me make the point of irresponsible parenthood. The blame is not always with the government. Some of those eating pig-meal chapatis were merely babies. Why are these people giving birth to so many children,so as to feed them of pig food?,Must people give birth to herds of children they cannot care for? These are irresponsible people in a large way and a part of the solution here is requiring these people to act responsibly with child bearing. Our leaders have the education, wealth and ability to rear several children but you will find them with one or two. Sometimes you need to face the issues without cowering to fears of seeming conceited. There is no food for everyone,so don't give birth and turn to ask what your child shall eat, serekali this, serekali that, simple! ODM

@prof, Can you hear the deafening silence?....I doubt you'll get many replies out of your rather twisted way of looking at things. It is the responsibility of the government to provide basics.......Very few Kenyans are asking for food.Give them land, water and security and they can fend for themselves.........The issue at hand is inequality and not family size and if you think otherwise, can you tell us how rich your mom was when she gave birth to you? I have to agree with prof, our so called 'leaders' are a group of fattened pigs and as they belch in fullness the poor wanjikus who are only of importance after 5 years continue being afflicted by a multiplicity of maladies the country is facing. But population growth in this country is an issue which needs to be adressed. We may talk of saving our forests but also realise that the available resources can only support so much a number of people. And hey...dont bring forth a football team and then start saying things are elephant or the goverment isn't doing enough. If you cant maintain a team...panga uzazi! see it through my lens?

@Njung'e- I concur. Much as @ Prof. has a point, his tone is not 'people friendly' Poor pple procreate more oftenly due to factors of the 'Needs triangle' They go to bed early to save the little paraffin of 5/=. They assume they have taken supper even if it was juz an appetizer. (yes the kids shud not imagine another meal coming) With no financial muscle to show, the best option for the head of the house to prove his 'totalness' is to play bed minton regularly....hence more children If our systems were well working, even the poor of this land would be living above current poverty levels. Fix the political problem and socio-economic equations would be fixed I was born intelligent, education ruined me.

Prof: am probably the only person who will tell you ''up yours' how can you possibly have a crude mind like that to people who had no choice of being brought into this world. Its the responsibility of every Government to take care of its people rich or poor. Its also the responsibility of every government to educate its population on the needy to have families that their can support. Its also the responsibility of every government to encourage its population to give birth to more children where there is an ageing population. Tell me where the government has succeded in any of this? I believe lowering the prices of unga by government, the poor people are not asking to much of a service. wote
