Deposit is never returned, you are told that the house will be repainted using it, just move at night, leave old curtains on the windows and lock it, first they will come to lock you out, and before they realise you are gone they will have lost a months rent, so everybody loses out.

threaten to report him to KRA. and if you have a friend working in KRA come with the friend and let the friend purport to be taking the ownership details and demand for tax backdated to last year. worked for me and i got my deposit back

Great! Had a landlord chop repainting/repairs etc after a one(1) month stay. Surely, Mungu amekubariki with a full apartment block but ata a few thousand shillings you want to steal? NKT!
