There is a direct correlation between the high charges of Kenya Power and this ==> BBC: Kenya refuses to send corruption suspects to Jersey:

Quote:
In 2003, a leaked report of an investigation by the Kenyan government said he had plundered the state-owned electricity corporation for several years - an allegation his lawyer denied.

Quote:
At the time Mr Gichuru was the head of the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC).
He is accused of working with Mr Okemo to bank more than £3m ($5m) from the deal.
The two are accused of taking millions more in kickbacks from British, Norwegian and German engineering firms, as well as a US communications giant.

Kibaki’s milestone, along with any hopes of industrializing Kenya using cheap power, is already long dead and buried.

Keep govt out of this the cost has always been 135000 subsidized by govt from funds am not sure from where but devolution is expensive i hear mcas are nowadays revered than mps we entered into devolution with good intent but we created small gods and a new eating level. if u were at the treusury btn paying teachers, doctors and remmiting billions to buys governors 300m in kilifi versus the connectiom subsides which one comes first. i will be a victim of this double increment but u cant rush to blam gava for every thing much as it has many shortcomings

Things are not that bad. A quote I got last year around Aug-Oct of 35K is still valid. I paid 5k then and disappeared. Last month someone from Kenya Power called me and asked me to pay 5K extra and apply for Stima loan but I just postponed acting.

A recent statement from Kenya Power jostled me from my slumber, yesterday I paid the 5K, applied for Stima Loan and I'll be submitting Wiring/Electrician's report in 2weeks.......was told when the loan is credited to my account.

#The interest on the loan is a one-off 5% charge on 24,980, which is 1,249/=. Monthly repayments 1,087/= for 24 months.

I think the problem is for clients situated more than 600 meters from the nearest transformer.
