First it was Royal mail which messed the whole business of mail delivery. Not only mainstream mail but also my deliveries from Amazon delayed for 3 weeks. As if that was not enough, British Airways is threatening to strike at the most critical time. Infact i have already a BA ticket falling on the said date and the whole saga is throwing me into a spin. Just to add an insult to injury Eurostar starts their strike this friday. Eurostar is the most convenient way of travelling from London to Brussels via the english channel.

why can't this union be given the responsibility of running this companies or just shut up. I tend to think this should be the 21st century definition of a failed western world country.

your thoughts as i ponder whether my flight will still materialise..

In many countries, the laws tend to favour labour. It is politically expedient.

If labour is really serious why is it that very few invest their resources in production?

I admire the Co-operatives in Kenya who are composed of farmers adding value. A farmer wakes up in the morning & labours all day but is a capital accumulator. They do not work 8 hours/day & expect a paycheck. They make their own paychecks.

Hello.
Many sympathies for your distress.
This is a symptom of workers and management failing to agree over money matters.
All other avenues of negotiation may have proved futile.
Free Market's economic theories allow for such agitation.
The assumption is that the workers need these methods to fight for their rights.
To deny workers these methods would make them basically 'slaves'.
Therefore, they hope the distress they cause you will bring sympathetic attention to their plight.
In Kenya, and Africa, workers lack means to effectively use such methods, making the cheap labour an attractive incentive for foreign investors.

@ria - Cheap labour? China/India seem to beat Kenya/Africa in this respect... and better infrastructure!

BA got an injunction stopping the intended strike, Kudos to Judge Laura Cox!!!! However, i will switch my allegiance not to Kenya Airways but to gulf airlines (Emirates and Qatar), i will not mind transiting via Dubai or Qatar.

@BGL i feel you esp the Royal Mail issue was quite distressed myself, on a similar note i flew Brussels Airlines from London, Brussels, Bujumbura and finally Nairobi. We arrived in Bujumbura and after 3 hours of staying in the Aircraft we were told we cannot proceed to Nairobi as there are no "LIGHTS" WTF??? we were booked in Novotel some old hotel for the night.

KAA some people were coming for business there was a lady who was coming for a burial of her father which she missed as we left Thursday jioni, surely aome apology....

On a lighter note, the next day as we were suantering around Bujumbura i was with this kenyan Lady who is married to a Dutch as she had her daughter with her, the locals kept on staring at me as we walked round town as i was holding her hand am sure they were thinking "you idiot can't you see the child is not yours..."

Merry X-mas

BGL - Any flight that is not direct is a recipe for delays... so unless all you want to do is save a few bucks, take KQ.

Maybe it's me... but I feel old... I try direct flights even for a few extra $$$

@VVS

I am not colour blind but i could see the pity in peoples eyes as "we" actually were behaving like a family..it was hillarious i must say.
On the other hand sometimes it's not just savings but the availability of flights can be an issue, as when i was booking it was impossible to get into KQ, BA, Emirates, so just went to Last minute.com and got a flight was is interesting is my return is on Swiss thro Zurich.

What happens when ruling political parties are bankrolled by Unions, as is the case with Labour party led by Gordon Brown and Unite union? The answer is very simple according to David Cameron,`it threatens the future of one of Britain’s greatest companies along with thousands of jobs’ and it’s the reason why the prime minister will not come out in support of those people who would cross the picket line because the Unite union is bankrolling the Labour Party.
I think the airline has to change, and so far the staff aren’t changing enough and to some extent due to Unions influence . The outcome of this dispute will decide not only whether BA has a viable future but also whether in the eyes of the public it can ever be seen as truly fit for purpose. We only see the customer inconvenience but thousands of businesses in the perishable good sector suffer when flights are cancelled due to lost markets..... a case in point is the cut flowers and other fresh produce.

However, solidarity forever!!! May be the answer with allies of British Airways in the Oneworld alliance are also taking steps to help add capacity on services to London and Finnair Oyj flying a larger aircraft on the Helsinki-London route. Iberia will also add bigger planes between Madrid and the U.K. capital, together with one extra flight. AMR Corp.’s American Airlines, the world’s second-largest carrier, is allowing passengers on Heathrow flights operated by it or BA through March 31 to make one change to tickets without penalty, or to request a full refund. Most of the long haul BA flights are unaffected so our very own KQ maybe not be a direct beneficiary in the short term.
