A woman who cut her son's penis because he had not fetched water got a rude shock when a Thika court imprisoned her for three years without an option of fine.
Marrion Wairimu could not believe her ears when Resident Magistrate B.J Bartoo jailed her on Wednesday.
The accused had earlier admitted that on June 24 at Makutano Village, Thika East of Kiambu County, she assaulted her seven year old son, a pupil at Kilimambogo Primary School, causing him actual bodily harm.
In his evidence, the boy told the court that his mother came home on the material day at 10pm and woke him up.
He said she started beating him up telling him he had become troublesome. It was after the beating that Wairimu picked a kitchen knife, removed his pants and cut his manhood, said the witness.
When the accused realized his son was bleeding profusely, she rushed him to Ngoliba Health Centre where she told doctors that the minor had been cut by iron sheet after falling from a roof.
The boy was later transferred to Thika Level 5 Hospital where he was admitted for sometime.
The accused was on June 25 arrested by area residents who escorted her to the police station.
Prosecutor Chief Inspector Josephine Wambua said although the accused was a first offender, the offense was serious and she had behaved in a beastly manner.
"The accused wanted to ruin the life of her own son by cutting his genitals. The minor will be traumatized for long due to the accused action," she said.
The Magistrate agreed with the prosecution that the accused deserved a deterrent sentence. She was given 14 days to lodge appeal. The accused was not represented.
