Always wondered when a supermarket runs out of good in the shelves..then why do they open the doors..when the trolleys are rusted how do they expect customers to view them..I am sure we will see rat comes out of Uchumi..doors

As bad as they are, they support locals but stocking quite a number of locally manufactured and agri products. I only buy vegetables in Uchumi but would not touch the rest of their items. They are dusty, the worst trolleys and poor customer service.

They are sitting on such a strong brand name and good will, but very dirty stores.
location is the only thing keeping me going there.

The worst time is to go when your broke, you end feeling really sorry for yourself coz its such a poor, dirty looking place

Better a foregin firm that will continue to provide jobs to locals than a local one that will soon die....rememeber telecom Kenya..you had to bribe to get a line..where are they today

Then safcom came and though foreign owned locals are enjoying in varying degrees!

This MUST" buy Kenya build Kenya was misunderstood and has really LOWERED standards of goods and services in end affecting economy, I'm in a place where imported item costing 3k high standard lasting 3-5 yrs was left for local item costing 5k lasting ONLY 1YR. This way is "wizi tu" Yes we need to support locals but QUALITY is of essence. Also came the gvt "borrow local to benefit local " we may all know why the Eurobond came in. sijui munifafanulie I could be wrong but then I could br right.

Think Its about time someone ran away with their groceries line...amalgamate the suppliers (all these green house and organic hype going on)..have the logistics right..cold warehousing and all..then good branding ..and countrywide network..probably even a regional horticultural commodity exchange and auction.

come to think of it, Uchumi doesn't cross my mind nowadays when I want to shop. all these other malls are grabbing all the convenient locations and Uchumi is slowly drifting out of the picture.

@Wanyee, Great idea. I am actually planning to do it but start in a small scale. With growing urbanization and reduced agricultural land due to poor zoning of agric Vs Industrial land, farming esp of groceries is very lucrative. I once drove thru parklands and imagined if i could supply veges to all those apartments, i would be rich!
