Was at Uchumi Aga Khan walk some weeks a go, got a kebarb to eat on the go, after the first bite, it was like charred remains of a cat. A second bite and I had to throw it away into a dust bin. Egg Chops are even worse. In another branch, the 101 Macadamia pack got finished and when I enquired, they said the small ones on 30 bob must finish before they restock the 101 pack. Six months down the line, no restocking has ever been done.
Ciano has done his turnaround job extremely well.
Compared to Tuskys or Nakumatt, Uchumi has no vibrancy about it. I think the outfit needs a new CEO to take it to the next level.
Its now trading at 12 bob. Time for awakening is now, otherwise forget expansion.

Stay stay until things go wrong...what happened to quiting while at the top? Competition is outsmarting this guy...competition has secured all the spots near all the busy bus terminals in town...Compe is also now securing all the good spots in Nairobi's neighbourhoods..people need convenience....

Uchumi employees are its biggest let down...zero customer care ..don't care attitude..dirty smelly shelves, stinking aisles...am talking about Capital center ..i usually see the branch manager upstairs ..akichungulia computer ..probably a member here..and the teller belts for placing items zime taruka..makes you wonder if the items are clean or even worse changed for with counterfeits...its about time they get a strategic investor..Walmart maybe?

Uchumi iko tu down sana, on all metrics. Other obscure supermarkets will come up and overtake it. Life is short. Live passionately.

You dont want walmart in Kenya, all these small time business will cease to exist, apart frm that, they import so much of their goods, -standardization- is their theme such that walmart in kenya looks like walmart in newyork, local distributors will be kaput. Even India said no to walmart. New management should be the way to go. "There are only two emotions in the market, hope & fear. I think the pie is big enough and can shared somehow equitably ...for how long will consumers stand this substandardness ...kwanza Nakumatt ...i suspect its a complex formation of tax evasion..money laundering and counterfait chain supply..if Walmart is ethical and pays tax..it is then welcome with all arms and legs even heads

I thought I was the only one I loathe these giant kiosks labelled supermarkets. I have said it before. before they think of expansion, they need a complete overhaul of their image and infrastructure other wise this'd time it Will die a real death. it's on the brink of extinction. keep up with competition of perish. I see gava mediocrity all over their chains The investor's chief problem - and even his worst enemy - is likely to be himself
