@VVS smile You remind me of an argument I once had with someone as to whether Merali is a good businessman - tricky. He's made some good calls though look at Kencell/Celtel, EPZ places, and now KDN.

However, I must agree these days it seems safer to avoid his companies. I still regret following him blindly into Uchumi - couldn't get out as first as he did ?!#E?

Perhaps Merali is a good businessman when it comes to his own pocket! However for the stock market.... hmmmm

@muganda - No way... dissect each of your examples...

1) Kencell - He was favored since he represented (not all the shares were his) the powers that be... Remember that the powers (moi, biwott, etc) had stakes in BOTH kencell & safaricom.

2) EPZ - You must be a young one... I read the Firestone prospectus cover to cover... merali (again a moi frontman) bought out ICDC's shares in Firestone at 5/- then sold them at 35.50... So who bought these shares? NSSF

3) KDN - Perhaps the ONLY deal that might have been 'foresight' but KDN was favored when Jambonet had a monopoly on internet provision/access.

No merali firm has made money for minority investors for the past 10+ years.

Neveready lower than IPO price
Firestone/Sameer IPO was at 35.50
Sasini was high as 30/- (after accounting for splits/bonus)

VVS... lol @ Neveready. Kweli that is one stock I steered clear of when guys were licking their lips, thinking all IPOs would go the Kengen way. How do you invest in a company whose profits have steadily declined for years?

Ooooh Merali this, ooooh Merali that... as you debate the man, I am waiting to get back in at sub 6.5. I had previously got in at 6 and exited at 7.2. By the way, which Merali firm has ever collapsed?

@GG - Well... you will have your chance to get in...

For investors in merali IPOs... the current prices might as well be a collpase...

I am a HUGE fan of AKFED firms (Nation, Jubilee, DTB, TPSEA) coz they deliver real value...

*** Of course, depends on the price you get in... I am using IPO/Rights prices are my starting point

You dont have to rub in,we held on and learnt a thing or two, albeit a bit painfully.
BUT where has it been safe with equities this year?
lets wait for CMC after their profit warning.
