It has been too much of politics, baba, fish and etc

Can we talk about scientific intrigues

My first take is a little bird, it is called Bar-tailed godwit. It feeds on the beaches of the world. That bird migrates from Alaska, down to New Zealand, 11,500 miles. It flies non-stop, 9 days and 9 nights! What does that mean? It means the sun rise, the sun sets, the sun rise, the sun sets ... the bird is flying, underneath are deserts, there oceans, the bird is flying, 9 days 9 nights! There are cities underneath the bird is flying! Through the rainstorms, through the hailstorms, the bird is flying! Little bird like that, it's beating its wings, day and night, no food, no water, no sleep!

It is known to set record for long-distance flight ever.

Migrating from New Zealand to Alaska, why does it do that???????? d'oh! d'oh! d'oh! d'oh! d'oh! d'oh! Pray Pray Pray

If you answer me that it does this to get food, I tell you there is food in Germany, there is food in France etc.... and it does not have to come from Alaska to Newzealand to find food! So you have to find a better answer than that!

Well, as long as we are taking a break from politics......much as the bird's non stop distance flight is amazing, you will find the claim that it outflies any human made aircraft to be false. The Boeing 777-200 LR has some of the longest legs in modern aviation, capable of a staggering 17,000+ kms nonstop flight. Our very own 787 dreamliner ate over 14,000 km on its inaugural flight to Nairobi. smile

Is this a scientific intrigue or the wonders of God? Somethings are not meant to have scientific answers but reminders of our Almighty.

BBI will solve it

I think Alpha doti meant flight duration an dnot flight distance.

But Alpha doti, Who was following those birds non stop to realize that they flew non stop?
If Obiero did it, Who Am I?

I am reminded that "science" is all about eye, touch, taste, hear and smell. Sensibilities. Subjectivity. Hence with a bias, I can confirm or debunk any "scientific" fact.

"Science" is not reliable.

flies non-stop for 9 days and 9 nights? big deal. but does it have the capacity to land after that flight? and can it land non-stop for even half of those 9 days and 9 nights?

I think I read somewhere that these birds, as well as swallows, are able to sleep in flight. They must have a kind of out pilot.

I also understand that some shark species never stop swimming from the day they are born, otherwise they die. Apparently they sleep by shutting down a half of their brains, or some crazy stuff like that.

There maybe a level of subjectivity but I think science is the most reliable belief system humanity has evolved. Certainly much more reliable than religion.

For instance every scientific claim is potentially falsifiable, meaning it can be supplanted any time by a superior counter claims, so long as this can be proven. No room for blind faith here.

@2012 you're right. The big question is: why does it have to fly from Alaska to New Zealand, afterall there's food around the neighborhood.

@quicksand, think more about the time factor. Not the distance. Time, 9 days 9 nights non-stop over oceans, cities, deserts... the bird flies!

@impunity, surely what kind of question! You're wondering to track a bird? How do they track baboons, elephants, rhinos etc. ama according to you it's easy to track something that walks but not that flies?

@wakanyu, there's one bird which flies non-stop too. One brain sleeps while the other works, then fail-over applies.

Wakanyugi,

"Science" no matter how advanced, relies on the senses - eye, touch, taste, hear and smell for verification and validation. If you "observe" - through these senses - a superior counter claim and others confirm it then it becomes "science".

What happens if these senses are not at optimal levels and conditions? Observations made by and through them are also affected to the degree of "non-optimalness".

Hence that which the possessors of these faulty senses claim to be "science" is not science. It is now something more blind than faith.

Mtu biz,

Obviously through another instrument of measurement outside of and not among these 5 senses. Logically, there is no other way.

Ok.

What would be the interface between you and this instrument outside the 5 senses ?
