My bank (NBK) has refused to accept deposit of my stanbic U dividend cheque. It is high time i moved out of the sotneage bank. Is there anyone who has had a similar experience with any other bank than NBK? Which is a better bank in terms of services?

Two years ago I was there (NBK) to deposit my dividend cheque and they told me the cost of clearing the cheque will be same amount as the dividend.

So I have just been accumulating them watching them expire.

To make it worse this time they sent an interim dividend cheque which is also in the pile.

The only thing left is to wait for the dividend to surpass the costs by a worthwhile margin

Stanbic were of no help either as they required one to open an a/c.

take the cheque to Dyer and Blair.
Knock hard and it will be opened. Ask and you will be answered. Seek and you shall find.

Mine is not because of the amount involved. I have previously cleared my dividend cheques through the same bank. As a policy, NBK does not take stanbic U cheques. Instead, they advise you to instruct stanbic to remit div direct to the account. For your case, it'd be appropriate to collect the instruction form from NBK and send the same with the cheques to stanbic so that they remit your cash direct to your account. My cheque is some substantial amount that will take care of clearing charges and am left with some cash. I dont understand what business NBK is in if they can turn down a cheque that can yield cash for them.

@murenju

my broker is Afrika Investment Bank. I took the cheque there and was tolk that they are not allowed by CBK rules to clear dividend cheques on behalf of clients. So, am stuck and need to open an account and move out of NBK. CFC stanbic is a prospect but it has a narrow branch network. Which is a better bank?

Send all your chqs (take photocopies) to the co sec at SBU. Tell them you are Kenyan & would like a chq in KShs. Or they can combine & send you one chq so you can deposit it.

I&M charges a hefty $50 (but you need an account at I&M) per chq.
