Please advise on the best way to receive small amounts of money between 3-7K from tanzania, dar. I've checked with kcb which is present in both countries but its too expensive. They charge around 1400/ minimum commission if the person deposits the money to my account number in a kcb branch in tz. The other options were moneygram & western union in that order which charge between 500-700/ for the small amounts mentioned above. Is there a cheaper way? I've also checked mpesa & zap but haven't found any agents offering the services across borders. Zain was to launch a money transfer service in partnership with western union in countries where zain operates but i guess we have to wait longer. Please advice on other better & cheaper alternatives

i work in dar and nbi and travel in between every 2 weeks. i cud arrange it for u where yr guy can bank tshs it into my account in dar and email me slip, and i will transfer kshs into yr account in nbi. i will charge kshs 1/- more than the official exchange rate as my transaction fee. it will work out much cheaper than kcb or western union as both these companies treat the transfer as international TT.

Use one of the myriad bus companies that ply the route btwn Dar and Nairobi. They are killing western union. The same will work for transactions btwn Nrb,Dar,Kampala,Kigali, etc. Many business people instead of carrying cash deposit the cash at source and withdraw at destination in the local currency.
