A friend is in the process of setting up an online shop and we were just wondering whether the idea will fly. just out of curiosity, who amongst you has ever shopped online? what did you buy? how much did you spend? how quickly was it delivered? would you do it again?

You can sell anything online. The question is to who and are you willing to educate your market.

Consider the following

She would have no competition in the beginning. Anyone who comes late on the net has to spend a lot more money to displace whoever was there before.

So she will have the advantage of what we call google love. Its the most difficult thing to get, but being first makes it cheaper and easier.

There are advantages of being first on the net that I cannot possibly list on this post.

why the net?

1. She can sell there to new clients
2. She can upsell to old clients
3. She can create a relationship with her clients that she will never be able to even in her own shop....
4. If she has the stomach to do it, she can get affiliates selling her products for her 24 hrs a day

Most important

There is no cheaper advertising medium than the net.

Of course it can also be very expensive you know nothing about internet marketing.

I would advice her to go for it and now! The same for any other business out there.

As for the market...You will be surprised of the things that Kenyans are searching for on the net. There is just no local content so shoppers are not bothering.

nice one - tried the site got my books via post in 3 days not bad, the price was great, a friend in Nairobi told me the price was the same in the bookstores there.
I also added a couple of used books from the site and i have to admit they are in good condition and hardcovers. unbelievable
my first online shopping and it was good.
