Following a conversation on Twitter between Sang252 and Wazua (no less)...

Interesting to learn KenolKobil held an investor conference today, where they made 2 important pronouncements:

@KenolKobil Dispute with KPRL settled; backlog of products lifted between July-Dec 2013 at above market prices. No exposure in 2014. KPRL dispute settled in 2013, all cases withdrawn. Cost of settlement $14 mn, no overhang in 2014.

@KenolKobil Net borrowings in Q1 2014 down to KES 10 bn from KES 13.6 bn in Dec 2013. Net working capital down significantly

Does this mean they already have an approx. 600mn gain from reduction in Finance Costs looking towards HY?

There would be interest savings, at the expense of additional business, but not for the entire KES 14bn just the amounts as the debt is reduced. KK still needs to borrow large amounts and will do so if it wants to sell fuel. What has probably happened is that KK exited various businesses eg aviation fuel and doing so means the need/requirement for additional loans/overdrafts has reduced.

KK has been inactive on the OTS market as well and that reduces the need for borrowings...

Managing Director, David Ohana

"We are busy paying our loans to the banks. In the past we borrowed monies for expanding our business. But we are now changing our strategy a bit. We want to reduce our loans completely by 2014 so that the company can stabilize.”

"While KenolKobil isn’t looking for a strategic partner, local and international investors have shown interest."

Meanwhile vol spike forcing price below 9/- handle. Lower bolinger bands (BB) lies @8.85 and with 9/- letting go the bear strength is hinting at gaining momentum. 52 week low lies @7.90 and seems the likely target if the bears take over.

KK has witnessed a lot of vol churn this month. The initial vol spike was ard 12M shares and since then the price has turned lower. As per TA, the price is testing the lower BB which means volatility is about to check in heading further down. Just like 9/- was being tested a while back (2013), vol spikes have appeared again. Guess what? The high vol was also in Apr 2013... Coincidence...

Something must be smelling really bad in this counter volume 16,689,200 closing 8.90/-.

Who is selling all these KK shares? It must be one of the 'top' shareholders related to biwott since no-one else has the ability to continuously sell-off these many shares.

Is biwott cashing out?
Are his heirs cashing out?
What do they know that we do not?

issue is why buy now and wait for 2014 and beyond for the share to rise from 10 to 20 while in the intervening period one can invest in CFC and Pan Africa which is soon to be a buy out candidate and reap by 2014 then plough back the investment into KK and KQ? i believe its all about timing and risk appetite.....

It's never that easy nor perfect. A while ago, when EABL was hitting its highs, it was well sung here. Smart money, locals being bought blah, bleh, blih.
What happened?
Some people don't like KK, others do.
That's why there are more sentiments than fundamentals from those who don't like KK.
Time for Kkeians to eat will come.

Traders and longterm investors cannot play by the same rules.
