Anything that looked like and crawled like history was not my friend at all. Indeed, memories. There were the two theories of evolution, Darwin's and Larmackian. But the latter was somehow not convincing enough and was soon forgotten. I recall the example given of a giraffe developing a long neck. Life is like playing a violin solo in public and learning the instrument as one goes on.
