Does this include the billions Star times has invested in the business?

Now I can say I told you so. The problem of getting old guard to understand what they voted yes to. My only concern with the judgement is the moral like ruling giving the 3 local companies the right to a digital license simply because they have invested a lot of money. That one.....apana. But this issue of forcing technology on people is unconstitutional and wrong. Now for the guys who bought these setboxes, shauri yenu. They should also sue the gov't for allowing an illegality in their midst. But they won't. Accept and move on they will say. First Konza, now digital migration. These were the real Ndemo years.
There is no problem with the set top boxes IMHO, they will still be needed even if the consortium was the sole provider of frequencies Not unless the star times one can only work with certain providers, which would be strange See, the sanduku allows you to view from different providers, now we have the third provider Or am I missing something? Where's that wazuan who sells Yaojin boxes? Is it @Coolio?

I agree with above. What I'm against is a gov't agency forcing everyone to get the set boxes. Then by licensing certain well connected companies creating a monopoly for these foreign companies. What they should do is move on to digital if they have to but also provide either multivendor setup boxes for everyone. But creating a market for certain companies is not the work of gov't. It's that simple. Otherwise we shall all be told to wear our hair like the North Koreans are being told and use only that barber on wazua who charges 5k per hair cut.

if the judges argument were to be flipped, as long as you have invested, you need not compete. startimes are therefore entitled to the license because they have invested in the industry
I care!

These stations should not be concerned with decoders any company can provide eg Access Kenya Safcom Airtel etc. Technology changes with time and these decoders will have to be changed too. What the likes of Nations Standard etc should be working on is creating content. Just like the way we have BBC news, BBC travel, BBC documentaries, BBC Nature, BBC Drama etc. The production department should be gearing up to create worthy content not just broadcasting. Interesting times ahead.

Baba was right that what we have is a "korti bandia". Only a korti bandia would make such a senseless ruling. How do you cancel the license of a company that competed against local media houses and won an open tender?

I was thinking along the same line. Am seeing a situation where the judges are over reaching themselves. They can't be the judiciary and the executive by themselves. It's is a disease, we have with the three arms of the government, each want to carry the roles of the other arms, I think one way or another, something will have to give way.
