Either way, its still very tricky for NTV, KTN & Cord TV. Not too sure if consumers will want to buy an NTV set top box.

I dont think this will mean buying other sandukus. Just that we have one additional supplier of platform from the trio's consortium

This is a lesson to the Jubilee and future governments: the media in Kenya is a powerful and determined force, accept that and deal with them at that level.

The ruling, which will allow Kenyans more time to install set-top boxes on their analogue TV sets, was part of a landmark verdict that blocked pay television stations, such as South Africa’s DStv and Zuku, from rebroadcasting local channels without permission.
Does this mean that we will no longer be able to view local channels on DSTV?

The key word is "WITHOUT PERMISSION". DSTv is permitted, i think, but GoTv and StarTimes, am not sure.

Star times should appeal/sue for damages. They beat the local TV stations in an open tender and the judges have now canceled their license.
Quote:
The judgment was a setback to viewers who had acquired digital set-top boxes from Star Times as the Bench unanimously cancelled the digital broadcast licence issued to them. “Having found that the CCK was not the right body contemplated under the Constitution to issue the digital licences, we declare that the licence issued to Pan African Network Group is null and void and cancel it forthwith,” ruled the judges. To save the company from loss, the judges ordered the CCK to refund it all the money it had invested, including the licence application fees it had paid.

Now I can say I told you so. The problem of getting old guard to understand what they voted yes to. My only concern with the judgement is the moral like ruling giving the 3 local companies the right to a digital license simply because they have invested a lot of money. That one.....apana. But this issue of forcing technology on people is unconstitutional and wrong. Now for the guys who bought these setboxes, shauri yenu. They should also sue the gov't for allowing an illegality in their midst. But they won't. Accept and move on they will say. First Konza, now digital migration. These were the real Ndemo years.
