NBK put South Sudan expansion on the back burner

“Our first target was South Sudan but with the on-going conflict, we have had to halt that plan for now,” said Munir Ahmed, the managing director for National Bank.

“Somalia too was a target but you can see what is happening there. Going forward, we are looking at Ethiopia and it if opens up, we will be setting up there.”

Ethiopia is such a lucrative market if it only opens up to liberalization there definitely will be good business here...given its double digit economic growth in recent years and the huge population!

Must be NBK Q1 2014 results showing a 16% increase in profit before tax. Reminding me of a Warren Buffett quote 'turnarounds seldom turn'

NPLs will chew KE banks returns as long as the econ continues to limp. How long will the numbers be fudged? This pretext show has run for too long. But it'll end soon...

Why offer the employees shares at a discounted price when the company has not been peforming for so long and share holder value has depreciated so much.

The manegement needs to turn the company around completely and then they can come back with this request to the share holders

Anything of import said at AGM?
