Hi guys,

Thank you for the good work. I have been in car business for one year now dealing with U.K cars since my brother is there and participates in auction for me.

But that's not the problem, recently i expanded to Japan and its a tricky one for me. I purchased a 2008/6 Avensis 2000cc for $3900 dollars from SBT Japan and its arriving on 10th May which means I will pay 700,000/= on duty and other charges but if the car arrives on June (20days later) the cost will reduce to 580,000/=. I tried to talk to SBT japan to charge me for storage for shipment to be delayed but they have failed to listen. Can anyone help?

I think SBT should be able to store for you the vehicle and ship it at a later date, but they could request for some extra fee.

@Kangi GG2 to be safe have a maximum of 350,000/=, the duty is 250k but there other costs such as port charges, registration, mss levy, railway dvt e.t.c

Wilyum port charges and not agency charges. I think it should be between 18k and 25k, 90% of the time it will hover at 20k max.

mucheminjagih... All CFS's give receipts. They retain a copy, your agent a copy and one should be yours. My previous agent would never give any receipts. I ditched him. The current one is very very reliable. All payments must be accounted for.

Some help required...is there anyone who has imported the Axio Luxel previously and how much duty was charged. I'm getting quotes of 480K on duty alone.

The following figures should apply for the 2000cc 2008/12. Compare with yours.
Customs Import duty
Custom Value Kshs.379,627.00
Import Duty Kshs.94,907.00
Excise Duty Kshs.94,907.00
VAT Duty Kshs.91,110.00
Total Taxes Kshs.280,924.00
Import licence (IDF fee) Kshs.8,542.00
Motor vehicle Registration fee Kshs.12,095.00
Railways Development Levy (Ksh) Kshs.5,694.00
Total Amount Payable to Customs(Ksh) Kshs.307,255.00

Other Charges

Grand Total Port charges (Ksh) 20,000-25,000.00
MSS LEVY (Maritime surcharge levy) around (Ksh) 1,463.00
Clearing & Freight forwarding Cost (Ksh): 8,000.00-15,000 (*varies na vile mmeongea)
Shipping Delivery order fee (Ksh) 7,308.00
Radiation (Ksh) 1,000
Total Estimated cost of Clearance (Ksh) 352,301.00

Then add The costs associated with inspection. Chevrons, advance tax, etc.

This is my opinion. You were finywad a few places though politely.

Port charges should not exceed 25k. I paid 20k for my shark. Delivery order = shipping line. Never heard of kra Levy. The public works thing could imply the bribe and fixing of stuff here and there. No complaint there. Fuel uligongwa. I used a full tank (7k) from Mombasa to Embu. Mine is 2500 diesel and yours is 2000 diesel. the difference is large. Driver is usually 5k if you must use one. And you don't cater for his accommodation or transport back. If you can avail your contacts I can hook you up with the guy who is clearing my units. If you are disappointed I will request that you revert to me hapa hapa wazua. All receipts MUST be presented. All. every shilling accounted for.

Yes you are right. That is why you are not seeing so many Axios around. You are much better of with a 1.8 L Allion. Cheaper and in my opinion better. space wise, parts etc.

Thanks @ prime. That amount is way too high..it should be for importing a Mercedes/BMW/Audi..anyway 've been informed that the Fielder Axio model would cost me about 280K.

Thus my question...how does KRA come up with this CRSP. These two cars are similar in almost everything (cc, engine, transmission etc) other than the shape (saloon/wagon)..but the duty for the fielder axio is almost double for the corolla axio???d'oh! d'oh! d'oh!
