C&P

In spite of detailed security measures which homeowners have put in place, the robbers have devised ways of gaining access.

They are now removing stones on security walls since they cannot jump over them because they are protected by electric fences, CCTV cameras and motion sensors.

Real unfortunate when one has to leave such an investment and settle elsewhere, maybe paying rent in a flat. If its a new estate, this happens then as more people settle there, it becomes more secure.

Classic Kenyan way of doing things:

Quote:
And residents of this affluent neighbourhood are unable to get much help from the police due to administrative overlaps.

Ongata police chief Silas Ringera, under whose jurisdiction falls Kiserian, the nearest station to Nalepo, said he could not end crime in the estate because it is under Ngong division.

And Ngong police chief Farah Mohammed said he had not received any reports of crime in Nalepo, adding: “If it is there, let residents come to me and report it. Let them make formal complaints to me.”

No wonder the thugs are seemingly having a field day.

Sad

Quote:
One resident, Reuben Matthews said a lawyer neighbour stayed in his new house for less than 24 hours in 2005. He was attacked the same night he moved in after spending almost two years constructing the house.

“The next morning, he packed his belongings and left and has never been seen since. It is like nobody is interested in buying the house so it has been left to a worker,” said Mr Matthews.

@Sitaki, the best way to use dogs for security is to keep them in their cages and only sense and alert when there are intruders and then the home owner can take precautions. A group of well organized thugs will always outwit dogs.

Thugs in Kiambu are known to use the railway irons to break walls. A couple of young guys lift it and run with it from the fence to the master bed room. crashing through master bedroom wall. just imagine the shock effect. the owners are usually immobilized by the shock.
