I am based in Kenya and would like to buy a tractor Mersey ferguson in Uganda as a dealer in nakuru advised that I can find it at cheaper cost. what I need to know is if tractors bought in Uganda can be registered in Kenya and work here.also if duty is paid for and if 8year rule applys currently. also the process of registration. I will be glad

@ Swaleh01! Uganda does not manufacture tractors, they also import. Why not import from UK/Israel directly?

@Swaleh01 we are also based in Kenya smile

Anyway @luttz has given you a good food for thought. Ugandans import it too, if you buy from them then you'll be buying an old one just as good as you would buy from me in Kenya. But if you import, you get a better condition used tractor. I imported too, and it's quite straight forward and cheap. There is no restriction of age like motor vehicles. There is no 8 year limit, you can import even 1980 tractor. Try Dumelow International, all the MF tractors you see around in the yards are coming from this guy.

And yes, you can import from UG and register. Very easily. Just like the car.

I would say 'many'. There's 3 or 4 major players, though from time to time some companies close shop due to competition. Another big player is Howard & Sons.

Do tractors attract import duty and other taxes given that they are farm equipments.

No, no, don't have it driven to destination, it's a waste of fuel and time not mentioning how much tyre you'll wear out! Hire a lorry, you might be lucky to get an empty transit truck to your direction, talk to the driver, and have someone to ride along in it.

contrary to what we have always known that tractors do not attract duty, i am reliably informed that they are attracting 15% from Jan 2014. Anyone imported recently?
