I suppose you never get these things? @danas10 I feel you ,i used to get tonsillitis at least twice a month ,very severe ones to the extent that at times i was bedridden. As Mukiri mentioned above you need to know the causes, for me its sugar(anything sugary) and cold stuff. so what i do in case i take anything sugary or cold i have to gargle using betadine or Salt before sleeping.I love my "poison " on the rocks ,so in the event that i partake ata kama nitaingia kwa nyumba 4am ,i have to brush my teeth and gargle using Betadin or salt. Nikipatikana na tonsils off guard i use Chloraseptic (am not sure its available locally) ,it works wonders you just spray and they get healed .if they are severe i see a Doctor. The tonsillitis infections have reduced to getting them at least once in two months. one of my pal had hers surgically removed and she is okay,i wanted mine removed at that point ,then i got info that someone removed and his voice got lost ,that story died like that. All the best Think Positive Test Negative

Also had same issues till I discovered the cause - sugar, soft drinks, ice cream, cold beer. I simply dropped these, (except cold beer in cold weather - when I have it warm), and yes betadine or salty water keeps them at bay.

All the best ...good to hear how you manage yours. i started the warm salty water thingy and i guess i will stick to this. the scary surgery stories am hearing are enough to invest in salt.

@Danas I know someone who had his removed, but now he has a cough that never ever goes away & his voice is very rough(almost gone), Docs said sijui his what(one of those throat organs) was affected by the surgery If you can, postpone the surgery unless the tonsils almost kill you someday(which i know is rare):) As advised above, check your tonsillitis pattern and find out what triggers them. For me it's soda/fizzy drinks, cold drinks and ice cream so i'm extra cautious when it comes to these. I also noticed that if i use a shared glass and it happens to have been not sooo well washed,i get tonsils,so if i'm in a club/restaurant & it looks dodgy-ish,i don't use a glass. With time i'm sure you'll learn what triggers your tonsils and work towards avoiding it Nevermind what haters say, ignore them til they fade away - Just live your life

Quote:Do I need my tonsils taken out?
You may be advised to have your tonsils removed in certain situations. In particular:
If you have frequent and severe bouts of tonsillitis. This usually means: >> Seven or more episodes of tonsillitis in the preceding year. >> Or, five or more such episodes in each of the preceding two years. >> Or three or more such episodes in each of the preceding three years. And the bouts of tonsillitis affect normal functioning. For example, they are severe enough to make you need time off from work or from school. The adenoids may also be removed at the same time for this reason. Throat infections are not totally prevented if the tonsils are removed. However, there is a good chance that their number and severity will be reduced. Also, the risk of developing quinsy is reduced. Many people say they generally feel better in themselves after having their tonsils removed if they previously had frequent bouts of tonsillitis. >> If you have large tonsils that are partially obstructing your airway, this may be a contributing factor to a condition called obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome. See separate leaflet called Obstructive Sleep Apnoea. >> If you develop cancer of the tonsil Life is like playing a violin solo in public and learning the instrument as one goes on.
