With Uganda refinery getting ready for the oil, Kenol-kobil may be the errand boy to play the local marketing of the commodity in East and central Africa. Ofcourse not all oil from Uganda will go down to mombasa for export as 40% will be consumed locally. What KK is doing is boosting its storage facilities as a buffer to the market and even may even expand acreage in Busia to store unprocessed crude oil from Uganda to top up during low production periods. I can see the price at above 15 so soon and even race like Total to 25-30 Kes.Segman did not go to sleep but is working as hard as anyone to recapture the market.

The refinery Uganda is building is a joint venture between the COW (coalition of the willing), Kenya will be a shareholder in that.

Seems Kenolkobil is back in play. There have been some good volumes traded today. Ultimately, it has (or will) sell non-core assets [at a hefty gain vs what they show in the books], cut down on debt and streamline their businesses.

I expect a suitor to come in at 12-15 [not 18-22 as previously thought] within 12-18 months.

That will seem like giving your wife to another man!!!!Shame on you This is a NO DEAL!!!! A deal less than 18-21 will be useless and shameful. With the cases in courts over KK is worth more than 25Kes.smile

To my Knowledge the only stake the GOK will have in the refinery is the Pipeline which would be a two way. However EAC would be better of perhaps only refining destillates for local consumption and the surplus crude export. Since competing with the likes of reliance in the distillates market might not be so easy.
As of KK being the leading petrol boy on the East African scene that is almost true especially with its vast assets and local shareholders. A good comparison in a small way would be BP and the storage assets at Cushing for WTI and the Britain for Brent.

Like Man U the fans of KK are still there praying that it dusts its boots and play the right game. KK is likely to see a good "recovery" and even soothe its fans with a DVD this FY. After Segman it has opted to play in the field quietly and will score goals. What trending if its not waiting to move past 13 by April? Are the board room games over and the smart boy come out openly with a better tag?smile

"Kobil Burundi has increased its retail foot print with an additional nine stations acquired in Bujumbura, consolidating the company's reputation as the fastest growing oil marketing company in Burundi"
That what is happening behind the scenes.
Third quarter may be showing goodness. When it shoots beyond 10, it will be a game changer.

Kk could be downsizing KE operations (selling non-core assets) and focusing more on those markets where there are no price controls. With Kpc and Kprl screwing all in the oil sector, focusing elsewhere might be the only way to bring value to shareholders.
I'm liking this!

Describe the net worth of KK today to see what we are holding onto. Who has the guts to do it? It was one of the highly capitalised stock an year and a half ago with SAFCOM and EABL. Where is KK standing today? When can it recapture market and do biz as usual?

Price controls in KE, Ethiopia,TZ & RW. Only in KE & RW is KK a major player. In TZ, it's 6% and UG is a tough market because of smuggled [non-taxed] fuel imports.

No idea about Zambia but KK is a small player while Puma [yes, that Puma] is strong.

KK owns significant assets in all the countries but will it sell them? In KE, there are attempts to sell off non-core or non-performing assets including some stations where land prices have jumped. Along Muranga Road [in Pangani] is a closed station [after the expanded road took away the 'entrance'] which is probably worth more in terms of land than the 'profit' it used to generate.

What will happen if they liquidate the non-core assets? Will they venture in other avenues since opening up more stations is not an option.. Or they just want to set-off loans and add cashflow?
Seeing is believing
