safaricom has 3G in all major towns in Kenya and is rapidly expanding to small centers. I enjoyed 3G in kisii,nanyuki,meru,nyeri and several other towns in the last 3 weeks of my work related travel. Safaricom is going far. I am told it has umlimited bandwidth in TEAMS.

wait a minute...

for the last one week or so safaricom network is hsdpa & not the wcdma...

what is going on...?

Engineers... does safaricom access considerably slow down when more users are added?

WCDMA- Wireless Code Division Multiple Access. HSDPA- High Speed Downlink Packet Access. Both indicate that you're connected to a 3G network. And,yes,3G is 'best effort' technology,the more the users plugged in,the slower the speeds...

dude...the speeds are amazingly appalling!..even slower than my 1mbps zuku speeds...and all i pay for zuku 1mbps is 5k per month if i was to pay 200 bob per day for this bogus safcon offer it wud cost me 6k!!..this offer really really sucks!...safcon must be reactin to the threat posed by zain acquring a 3g license...

I am surprised by your comments coz am currently enjoying superfast safaricom unlimited 3G internet. Have even been streaming my favourite videos live. Your computer must be the problem if you are not enjoying the high speeds - I hope you are not using one those old 32mb RAM obsolete computers.

As for Zain,I was shocked to hear their CEO saying recently that they will finally start offering 3G sometime NEXT YEAR. I thought they had 3G. I just pity their customers who have no choice but to use the stone-age EDGE. Safcom is surely the way to go.

And that's the reason Kenyans should avoid this morbid fascination with freebies. I'd rather pay slightly higher for better quality service rather than pay peanuts and get poor service. As it is I'm glad this is just an offer,no network in Kenya can handle unlimited offers. Remember what happened with the free calls offers both on Zain and Safaricom? They both had to put caps on it.

dont think its my comp....in any case i beleive someone has explained that the increases number of users wud invariably lead to lower speeds
