I said this in the other thread but its worth repeating here. Kenyans must hold our politicians accountable for addressing youth unemployment, corruption and tribalism.

These are the three primary reasons that crime is spiralling out of control in Kenya.

A person wrote in the Daily Nation about 10 years ago that Kenya was facing a population bomb because our population was increasing dramatically yet the government is not doing much to create jobs. We now have 16 million unemployed youth !!!

The youth are jobless, idle, broke and desperate. These are ingredients for crime.

The youth also see politicians stealing and awarding themselves huge paychecks. So they wonder why they should be left behind in the stealing sweepstakes. Kenya is now a free for all where anyone who can steal will steal.

Standard newspaper reported that corruption is costing Kenya 250,000 jobs. Please read this

These 250,000 jobs should have gone to the youth to pull some of them away from crime.

Tribalism creates resentment when people see only certain ethnic groups getting jobs. It also prevents Kenyans from electing issue based leaders.

As I said before, jailing people will not solve this population bomb that is about to explode. Kenyans must look inwards and admit that they are a prime reason why crime is soaring. Then they must hold politicians accountable.

First things first. Mr. Uhuru must declare zero tolerance on corruption and start really tossing bigwigs in prison for corruption. From now on he must make job creation a national imperative. This is a national emergency. Parliament must enact laws that address thievery within county governments.

But if getting tribal numbers is the only ticket to State house, issues like youth unemployment will never be addressed with the seriousness it deserves. Kenyans must change their culture or continue watching crime spiral out of control. Kenyans must start a culture of voting on issues NOT TRIBE. And the three biggest issues are crime, unemployment and tribalism.

You must ask yourself if having a person from your tribe in State-house is as important as your safety, your life and the very life of those you care about.

Kenyans have revelled in tribalism for five decades and are now reaping the results.
