Someone recently went to apply for a loan at Stanchart then he was informed that he has been wrongly blacklisted by HELB. So he went to HELB and got a compliance certificate which showed he is meeting his obligations ie paying his loan as a good citizen.

He later took the certificate to Metropolitan CRB which cleared him and gave him a certificate of clearence and got hm off the blacklist. At a cost of course (sh 2200). He then went back to the bank and they told him they only deal with the other CRB known as Transunion (formerly CRBAFRICA). The guy lives in Kisumu, by then he was back to work in Kisumu so he called CRBAFRICA and explained his case, they asked him to scan the HELB cert and email it which he did immediately (Here he paid sh 2500 fee) The next day they asked to see the original so he brought it to them in Westlands (from Kisumu) after assuring him his clearence certificate. After the seeing the cert they asked for a letter from HELB certifying the cert which he managed to get a day later but still they couldnt clear him because now they wanted an email from an unnamed HELB official.

The guy is still frustrated and is on the phone with the CRB guys constantly begging them to clear him. He thinks a particular Veronica at Prosperity house office wants a bribe to release his clearence.

Why do we have two CRBs working with the same database and have to clear with both?

If HELB or any other instituition blacklists you by mistake, shouldnt they bear the cost to clear you?

Who owns the CRBs? Are tehy colluding with HELB officials to blacklist you so that you pay the sh 2200 or (2500 for CRBAFRICA)to be cleared?

@Kiterunner that is bad...I have heard stories about this CRBs not good at all, he should just get a wakili friend of his to write those guys a stern letter that will work at least they will take the matter seriously and work on sorting out his issue.
My pal also suffered a similar fate being tossed left, right and center from HELB to those guys...mwambie asichoke if he is in the right.

I still wonder. Dont the Financial institutions have an obligation to inform the defaulter before they file the name with CRB? What does the law say?

The problem is you will spend a lot of time and money just following up on this matter...at times its not worth it, there is some guy who paid for an item using his card (40K there about) the bank deducted 80k instead from his account...the case went on for 3 years and he was just given back his cash plus interest declared by the court...since he worked out of the country (DRC) he had to appear at least once in court wasted time, wasted resources...

@Kiterunner, you are indeed a liar. I am from that CRBAfrica to obtain clearance for myself. They charge 2,200 and not 2,500 as you claim. Do a spot check for yourself and you will get the truth. I dont have any beef with CRBs bcoz the came into existence through an ammendment in the banking regulation.
I have also read your twitter comments on them and man what you have posted is full of matusi and that could ultimately earn you some heavy legal suits. The week is still long and I can bet that they may not spare you.
