You should not make such blanket statements. Give examples. What i know is that many institutions are very thorough while recruiting and can even disregard you if you did one of those one year "masters by course work" degrees. The argument being that one cannot supervise 2yr masters by research/thesis students if they never went through one.

many institutions ??? No, just a selected few. A pal is teaching a 3rd year course yet he is masters student.

Whaaaat? Where is that? Masters students can ONLY be teaching assistants whereby they assist undergrad students in their practicals or tutorials BUT NOT to teach. Which university is this?

The universal standard is that you can ONLY teach a primary school if you have a form 4 cert, teach sec school when you have a bachelors degree, teach undergraduates when you have a masters, teach masters students when you have a PhD, and supervise PhD students when you are a Prof or senior lecturer.

In same institution, there is a madam lecturer who was working on her PhD yet she was teacher masters students. She was bright and "loaded" though.

Illegal too. Talk of impunity in universities. She should only teach masters students after getting her PhD! It must have happened on one of those 1st floor unis on Moi avenue.

Sorry for the typo. You are so wrong!!!

What i have mentioned is the only legal and globally accepted standard. Anything deviating from this is illegal .......and crap. If you can not hire a std 8 'graduate' to teach a std 8 class, then you can not hire a PhD student who only has a masters degree to teach masters students. He has to earn a PhD before you let him/her teach masters students.

and the problem is??? it will only be a problem is a master's student was teaching a master's course that he has not done and passed! teaching is issuing instructions! in order to properly instruct a 3rd year course one needs to have done it and possibly a unit that it its a prerequisite to everything else is a needless requirement we have placed on ourselves.

Wrong with regards to the institution in question. @Masukuma, that's not how academic world operates. Maybe that's how it's done in Kenya. That said, I had a problem with one of my PROFESSORS, yet he insisted on being called a Prof.

exactly! I find it interesting that we have a good number of such fellows who went to UK/US like akina kiash with grades which couldn't have helped gain university admission then end up with many degrees like a thermometer.

Do you really know what you are talking about? You can ONLY instruct a std 8 class if you have done class 8 PLUS form 4. You can also only instruct a masters class only if you have done a masters degree and a level above it i.e. PhD. That is how education works. Kwani am the only learned person around here?

I'd rather be dead than attend those colleges. I can not go there even for simple courses.

I went through the same systems you are talking about. but it still does not make sense! just because they have been doing it - it does not mean that its the only way it can or should be done! its part of the entitlement disease that hounds the academic circles.

Many employers nowadays refer to your form 4 certificate as the first sieve, anyone employing a D student is negligent regardless of their eventual degree(s)/qualification and deserves what they get in terms of services.

On the matter of lecturing universities, i like the US system where you are immeadiately referred to as a professor the minute you start teaching university students, hata kama you can't spell your name. In the Kenyan system you can work on your PHD thesis forever.
