I just noted my power bill for January is twice the amount for December with similar consumption if not less given I travelled.

Anyone else who has noted this with their power bill?

@mawinder, please take your stale comments to Dandora dump-site.

You emaciated bowels cannot even pay electricity generated by the Lampyridae.

From your confirmation it does seem like the tarrif issue.

I believe the tarrifs were to go up. Does anyone have an idea how this new calculation is being implemented or when it was to be effected?

Me I want to understand the prepay thing.

Our meter was changed in Oct..We bought 2000 worth token and got 102 units which lasted like 3 weeks.Another 2000 gave us 99 units another 2000 gave 97 now we are at 95 units for 2000.

Beginning of Jan we did 1000 worth token and got 39 units

So how are they calculated?

Then hizo units zinaisha araka sana.Jan to now we have done 4350.

Iko shida pahali.

For anyone wanting to query your electricity bill, SMS your account number (exclude the trailing hypen and digits e.g if A/C is 34276-01 only SMS 34276) to 95551.

Report back with any signs of shifting payment paradigms. LOL

Somehow i agree with @mawinder. Since we went post paid in October 2011, i gave up on computing monthly elec usage. So erratic and unpredictable! Swing between 5 to 7k from 2.5 to 4k previouly!

Young girl, are you sure you know what you are talking about?
Do you know the difference between "pre-" and "post-"?

Where were we before we went post-paid?

A cheaper alternative that gives details of consumption is this;
"Dear Customer, click www.kenyapower.co.ke/551 and register to receive your power bill on email and Free SMS alerts."

I have continually noticed that ones you start a new month and you exceed 1,500/- you move into a new charge block that has a very steep charge rate per unit of power.

Comparing last year November vs October I lost 20 units for the same amount of money spent for a month. I have yet to recharge it to see what the new rates are. Yet most of the appliances running in the house are comps. The fridge is on part time and lights are L.E.D.s now that power is competing with gold.

Am actually dreading it now that you guys have actually also noticed it. Sad
I heard Huru say that by end of year or something like that he will make sure the power rates drop to 33% of what they were Nov last year?
Or will they rise now so that when they drop to 33% of what they are, they will be all what we already know?

For those of you on prepaid if you input 050 then enter it will give you an instantaneous power consumption. (This will allow you to monitor and track every appliance's consumption in the house)
If you input 080 then enter it will give you a the no. of unit consumption since the day before (24hrs).
