freiks wrote:Went to some place near BS (bus station) and they sell some funny juice made from vegetables. This woman was doing it as i watched and when you ask for it she asks you "why do you want this juice" since its custom made for your type of problem. I told her mine is just for the sake am not sick anywhere. As she prepared it I just felt as though any disease I could be having has just been healed. She mixed nearly all types of veges....sukuma, spinach, cucumber, pilipili, aloe vela, dhania, carrots, french beans and many more i cant even remember them. Then she added natural honey atleast to make it drinkable. Since yesterday when i talk to anyone I have to shield my mdomo coz ya halufu, when i go to pee the whole toilet smells aloe vela, I tried pupu.... waah its even worse (the smell) Am hoping any disease that was hidden somewhere is gone or more worse I have gotten the worst disease ever imaginable in this world. Anyway am a believer in natural medicine sometimes though they need discipline and are slow healers The 'funny juice' is called 'green juice' and making it, like making other juices and meals, is an art. Natural, and traditional medicine isn't made up of neem, or garlic, but is a comprehensive philosophy that combines different therapies to effect healing. Like in this case the green juice is only a standard therapy supposed to be taken 'always' and by 'everyone'. Other treatments should have followed a proper diagnosis. Having said that, I must confess that despite the many posters of 'Daktaris from Tanga or Abuja' a true traditional doctor is hard to come by. More often than not the practitioners use 'conventional' philosophy and back it up with muarubaini and the like.

We have witnessed the defeat of certain trained medical personnel in a different thread about giving birth in certain health facilities.
The green juice is a vegan meal. Experienced vegans will say that certain combinations produce certain effects.
Experience comes from trial and perhaps error and is accumulated over time.
So as Kusadikika is still saying, everyone should familarize himself with his own body. Is this the first step in healing?

@Kusadikika: No stones here! I appreciate your healthy skepticism about blood pressure and mainstream medicine’s approach to treating it and other conditions. Enyewe there are docs that hand out some of these meds like they were peremende. My mom had high sugar due to an infection. She ended up with a blood sugar lowering med, a blood thinner, cholesterol lowering medication, in addition to her usual blood pressure meds, all with their kilometer-long side effects, She refused all except the blood pressure one. That said, modern day treatment of high blood pressure is informed by an American long-term population research study called the The Framingham Heart Study and other studies like it. This study started in 1948 and followed normal people over their lifetimes, measured their blood pressure over the years and noted who got heart attacks, strokes and so forth and how those conditions were linked to the blood pressure. Those with higher blood pressures got more strokes and heart attacks. Dunno if this fits your standard for research, but it’s the evidence used to inform current practice for treating high blood pressure. The reason docs worry about prehypertension or high normal blood pressure is because the Framingham study showed that it has a 90% chance of leading higher blood pressure. Few docs will give you a med for this unless you have other issues. They will ask you to see a nutritionist so you can lose kitambi, eat more beans, greens and hit the gym and quit masigara, kiruru etc…. Kusadikika wrote:There is almost no research in medicine now that is done to establish normal. I will dare all doctors here in Wazua to quote studies that have been done on healthy people who are on no medication to try and establish what is normal. This would be important so that you can have normal readings for different ages, weights, race, tribe and gender. Everyone is supposed to have the same number, have you ever heard such upuzi?!

Much appreciated @Dahatre. Thanks for sharing. This is interesting. I however now see why a majority of the African Americans are on High Blood Pressure medication. Any research done in the United States should be handled with a great deal of suspicion. The US is great in many things but Medical care is not one of them. Ask any Kenyan Doctor who has gone to work in the US. Big pharmaceutical companies will jump on anything with the potential to make money and studies can be designed to justify an already established position. Case in point is the use Mental Illness medication. Check this out: http://www.newyorker.com...theory-discredited.html
I would be very curious to find out the outcome of studies such as the Framingham Heart Study carried out in countries where Medicine is not a profit making industry. I would be curious to read of studies from Cuba, or the former Soviet Union or even long term studies within the NHS of the UK. If you come across any please share.

My 2 cents. Ever since Parallel degrees were introduced, many view studying Medicine as an investment and this to me, has watered down the quality of healthcare. How else do you recoup 1M+ spent on fees.

How else do you recoup 1M+ spent on fees. You could say that again. Another trend I nowadays notice, many of the parallel students are not willing to serve in 'marginal' areas and would rather resign. Who is to serve our dear brothers and sisters in places as diverse as Loiyangalani, Mandera, Wesu, Hola, Alupe, etc? All this while the population of regular students is held constant or, in some cases, is reduced while that of parallel students grows. Life is like playing a violin solo in public and learning the instrument as one goes on.
