He becomes a hometown boy!..Would you have said such nice things if he had been appointed Chancellor of Mt Kirinyaga university??Sad Shame on you

Jeso....yaani that exists???

Maseno has students from all over the republic guka!!!!!

And staff from all over...???
You should see the ratios/distribution!

That happens all over, many people prefer working close to home, go to Moi, Kabianga, Masinde Muliro and any other institution of learning based in mashinani....distribution remains the same, I even know somebody who said he'd rather resign than be transfered to Masinde Muliro!!!!!

I'll disagree with you. The universities you have mentioned are full of tribalism. You can apply for a job there as many times as you want but if you are from the "wrong" tribe you are done!

Masinde Muliro is the worst. They even conduct meetings in mother tongue!!!

Kabiaga comes next.

Maseno third.

Moi fourth!

Most tribal universities south of Sahara and north of Limpopo

Next time there is a graduation, just look in the papers and see the names of VCs, DVCs, HODs, Chairmen, etc. etc.

Aha, now least the most non tribal ones out of Nairobi?

Visit their sites - though some don't list the names of the top people because they know they will be "mulikwad".

Alternatively get your Friday papers from December. Most universities had graduations then. Go through the list of who is who in the university.

To know the percentages of lower cadres, you might have to talk to people who either work or do business with those universities or you can just visit some.

There is one in Nairobi area [public] that you only need to be there for five minutes and you will realize that almost everyone is from one region!

You are running away from the question as expected, I'm trying to tell you that all the learning institutions located mashinani are the same in what you were initially accussing Maseno of, as somebosy said, the discussion on the same is even irrelevant to this post!!!

I must agree though that you are on fire today!!!!

The siasa in the institutions of higher learning puts to shame what the 2 and O gangs combined can do - all the best if he manages to talk sense into them, otherwise those guys hold with very little regard individuals with lower academic qualifications.

I am amused at how people are trying to highlight negative aspects of this appointment. Ooh those loud mouthed JJs, Ooh they are tribal ooh they look down upon people with lower academic qualifications. If you are not happy just say it.

Seems this appointment brought some good feel vibes.

To the reality now, tell me a single Chancellor that 'revolutionized' a single university in Kenya. The answer is none.

Chancellors are like the ceremonial board chairmen of companies. The person that matters the most is the VC.

Day to day running of an institution is what makes or breaks them. Can't you see that, people?

Fair enough. But suppose then a great VC with some sense of direction n purpose combines with a great Chancellor who can do some or all of the things below:

This is a great move by PORK.

What will MJ do different?

1. Provide a new vision/direction
2. Mentorship to student and staff(Himself or business contacts)
3. Increase links to other top universities
4. Expand list of donors to the university
5. Advice on how the uni can manage resources and increase revenue/surplus .etc.

The fact that previous Chancellors have not done it doesnot mean it cannot be done. Give MJ a chance.
