I had not seen this earlier, but here is my chance to make a quick buck.

There is no way WTK's price will come down to 120 even after release of the FY results (unless it is forced down via a deliberate trade on a material announcement date, which in my view does not count). I am willing to take a bet on this.

I also expect a dividend given that WTK still has a relatively good cash position.

That said, I expect the 2013 FY results to be lower than those for 2012.

Higher production, lower prices. Not the best of situations. That said, who buys Williamson for short-term gains? This is a share for the long-term i.e. the payoff will be HUGE.

Politics of reclaiming back the huge tracts of land owned by Williamson Tea in the Rift Valley begin led by one Alfred Keter.

That's how it usually works. When there is a drought, low supply hence higher general prices and vice versa. Demand and supply?

This is worrisome. Perhaps what Williamson needs to do is start sub-dividing the farms & cashing out pole pole. Distribute the cash to the shareholders.

It maybe late for cashing in......they want the land for free. The tea companies in the rift may have to release some of their tea estates to locals for sub division as a pre-condition for lease renewals . This is a very worrisome trend and smells of the Zim scenario in all but name.

Happy hunting.

The ambiguities in the new constitution - sad when one considers the billions spent on salaries, perks, food, accommodation & per diems -will mean court cases for years BUT the invasions will happen & accepted by the courts eventually. The question is... Will the farm owners be compensated at market rates?

What's the status of the Orbit Chemicals land in/near Embakasi - that was taken over by squatters - which was valued at 110mn per acre?

Freehold Land - When it reverts to Leasehold Land, when do the leases start? In 2010 or are they backdated? And how long are the leases? 25 years or 99 years?

Sad Now this is worrying.
The results are just a few weeks away. @Very Many Things, what do you expect from them? I want this one for the longhaul(because of the land asset) but from your exchange here the future may not be very bright. I don't want bad results to lock me in...

Just had a look at the WTK cartoon as far back as 2006. Huge vol spike has checked in late Dec 2013. Actually this vol spike is the highest as per the long term charts. The cartoon is neutral in direction. Having seen this vol spike I'm adding this to my watch list. Sizable move coming soon.

Ooh yes.
H1 2013 ended 30.09.2013 versus H1 2012
H1 Profit from operations before biological assets Valuation 175.374m
versus 125.858m
H1 Increase in Fair Value of biological Assets 279.220m versus 192.583m
H1 PBT 526.064m versus 398.017m
H1 PAT 368.245m [189.595m from Biological Assets Reval] versus 278.612m
H1 EPS 41.18 versus 29.85

Company Commentary

It is a matter for national concern that the international tea markets
have declined sharply indeed over the period under review with Mombasa
Auction prices currently a huge 30% below 2012 and now standing at a seven
year low. The Kenyan crop has increased by 20% in this period over 2012
which has combined with increases in crop in other major tea producing
countries to create a very weak and commercially unsustainable tea market
in Mombasa.

Conclusions

Its an outrageously cheap shares and There is 910.092m of cash on hand and
that alone is worth 103 shillings a share.

And someone must have read the thread. All the shares on offer were taken out! There is strong buying pressure with a net foreign buying position.

Tea prices have started rising as production among smallholders drops. Smallholders do not irrigate and get 'discouraged' when prices fall thus harvesting and maintenance is reduced. Williamson had started on a new factory (or refurbishing the old factories) for better/cheaper production while increasing the yields by using automated harvesting methods.
